Top 10 Games of the 2025 Maryland High School Football Season
It’s that time of the year when high school football teams get the helmets on and get back out onto the practice fields. We’ve been answering the questions on top games around the country and now turn our attention over to Maryland high school football, which features some of the top talent in the country.
Seeing that there’s a list of games that stretches from the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge down to the state capital of Annapolis, we bring to you the top 10 Maryland high school football games of the 2025 season.
1. The Hun School (N.J.) at St. Frances Academy (Md.), Oct. 17
Two powerhouses on this level clash towards the latter stages of the season and we believe this could be a knock-down-drag-out kind of of contest between the programs. Both play IMG Academy at some point in the season and each feature a boatload of Power 4 level prospects on their respective team. If you’re looking to watch some high-level football on a Friday night, you might want to make your way out to Baltimore for this one.
2. The First Academy (Fla.) at St. Frances Academy (Md.), Oct. 3
Yes, another St. Frances Academy game and for plenty of reasons. Playing Florida’s The First Academy, whom many believe will be one of the Sunshine State’s best teams this season, provides a solid home contest for the Panthers, who played only three games at in Baltimore last year. The Royals are playing a national slate, which includes teams like IMG Academy, Milton (Ga.) and Venice (Fla.). This arguably could be the best game of the year in Maryland.
3. The Hun School (N.J.) at Archbishop Spalding (Md.), Sept. 5
Just two weeks after Archbishop Spalding takes a trip over to Indiana to face Brownsburg, the Cavaliers then return home to face off against the Raiders. The Hun School features one of the top prep programs in the country and to say this is a challenge for Archbishop Spalding would maybe be an understatement. The Cavaliers are surely going to be tested in the early weeks, post-Malik Washington, and when it comes to top level games, this one is right up there in the DMV area.
4. Archbishop Hoban (Ohio) at Archbishop Spalding (Md.), Aug. 30
Well, you don’t get to see too many of these matchups take place on an annual basis. Ohio versus Maryland. Two states enriched in the high school football world, filled with competitive teams, most on the outside of the top 25 national scope besides St. Frances Academy. Regardless, this one should be a strong early test for Archbishop Spalding as they face at gauntlet to start the 2025 season.
5. DeMatha Catholic at Good Counsel, Oct. 10
When it comes to all-Maryland high school football games on this list, we believe this is the best of ’em all. The Stags and Falcons meet just a couple weeks ahead of Halloween, but this game could certainly get more than spooky for the fans on hand. Looking at how this one ended last season and Good Counsel has to be itching for another shot at DeMatha after being handed a 35-7 loss. With the amount of talent on both sides, this figures to be better than last year’s edition.

6. DePaul Catholic (N.J.) at Good Counsel (Md.), Sept. 5
The Falcons are back to back on this list, playing one of New Jersey’s better football programs in DePaul Catholic. Playing against a talented Crusaders’ bunch, led by four-star Washington commitment Derek Zammit at quarterback, this poses a test for Good Counsel’s secondary. Played early on in the season, the matchup is a week after the Falcons host Columbus out of Miami.
7. Riverdale Baptist at McDonogh School, Aug. 22
With the kind of defensive front seven the Eagles bring to the table, we expect a lot of hard hitting out of this game. Riverdale Baptist didn’t lose a game last year, going 8-0. Now they will go up against a McDonogh School defense that only yielded 13.3 points per game in 2024. Georgia commit Nick Abrams heads up the Eagles’ talented linebacking corps.
8. Dunbar at Bishop McNamara, Aug. 23
Both may not be among the upper echelon of teams in the state, but when they meet to start the season, it is sure to be one of the top regular season openers. Dunbar graduated a slew of talent offensively, including 1,200-plus yard rusher Cole Floyd. The Poets still have plenty left in cupboard when it comes to talent on both sides of the ball. Flipping to Bishop McNamara, they are led by 2026 edge rusher Jianni Davis, who is committed to Maryland.
9. St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) at McDonogh School (Md.), Aug. 29
Another Northeast vs. DMV tilt makes our list as St. Anthony’s visits McDonogh early on in the season. The fact that these two teams haven’t met recently and it’s a fresh look at a new matchup makes for some potentially good high school football. The Eagles only losses last season came to state power Archbishop Spalding and that could be the case again this fall. The Friars on the other hand are led by one of the top 2027 running backs out of the Northeast in Xavier Bala. This contest has a lot of potential.
10. Gonzaga (D.C.) at Loyola Blakefield (Md.), Sept. 13
This time last year, this game was anything but a good one. Fast forward to the present and we think this one has a shot to be pretty good. Both programs are considered among the best in the DMV and we can’t believe that the 41-7 shellacking Gonzaga gave Loyola Blakefield is how this is always going to play out. With Notre Dame commitment Khary Adams back for the Dons, it could make it a little bit more interesting than 2024’s version.
