This, it doesn't matter how good/bad they were this year he will likely need to bring in a bunch of players and there aren't enough "great" players for him to take in that will be better (and know him and his system).

A few things: - Iowa State’s roster isn’t the caliber of Penn States roster. You can’t take everyone because not everyone is good enough to actually play there - If I was Campbell I would take, my starting secondary (the guys that were original starters before they got hurt), my starting and possibly backup QB, my starting TE, and potentially a couple of the WRs - I would have made a play to keep and make Jim Knowles my defensive coordinator. Their offensive coordinator isn’t bad either, but Campbell will want his own guys

He only needs to take one to make me happy.

It’s funny you say that, his roster would be fourth in the Big Ten just ahead of Iowa?

Yes, MC might fail like Curt Cignetti has, by bringing coaches and players with him who have played in a system together for multiple years? And we know how Iowa has always marched up and down the field vs the 3-3-5. Not saying MC will be killing it like Cig, but I also think those players failing because they were 5-4 this year is also assuming lots of things. They had a ton of injuries and will have much greater depth @ PSU. If he can bring Rocco with him, I could see them going 8-4 next year as PSU has a fairly light schedule too. I'm not a huge lover of Psu or MC, but I am just trying to bring some objectivity. His first year system will be new against many opponents.

That is the question and I suspect the answer is yes. Our roster is better than theirs overall, but I'm confident they have some guys who could help. I'm not saying they'd necessarily decide to come here. But I'll be a little surprised if we're not at least gauging interest on at least a handful of their guys.

Honest question, but is Becht better than Grunkmeyer? He might be, but Grunkmeyer has some ability. Agree that he is going to have to take at least some players from ISU to PSU to help instill what he wants to do. And if you take a gander at the PSU schedule for 2026, it's set up for him to win right away. Non-con - Buffalo, Temple, Marshall Conference road games - Maryland, Michigan, Washington, Northwestern Home conference games - Wisconsin, USC, Rutgers, Minnesota, Purdue Campbell literally has a dream schedule for a fast start. No OSU, no Indiana, no Oregon, no Iowa. Only game they might not be favored is at Michigan.

I know it’s crazy to think this way, but Campbell may not want to completely raid the ISU roster out of allegiance to the place he invested 10 years of his life. I’m not saying he won’t take ISU players that want to follow him to PSU, especially the ones he feel that can contribute at that level (i.e. the best ones), but I wouldn’t be surprised if MC is rather selective in what he takes from the ISU roster. Maybe I’m reading Campbell wrong, and if so I’ll have no problem standing corrected. I’ve just always thought of MC as a different type cat and could very well go into this legitimately trying to balance his new roster while not leaving his old one in a dilapidated state.

PSU has a dream schedule next year. They fucked up by firing Franklin. He could have ran the table next season and got them to the quarter finals. Their AD is an idiot.
