I met with a buddy of mine who has given me very solid information in the past. He says the B1G is looking to add UNC, UVa, dook and Kansas.
I almost fell out when he said it. Buncha basketball schools!
Don't bet your house on it, but he has been accurate in the past.

That would be unfortunate, because I believe there are too many vested parties at UNC who would rather us be tethered to Duke in any conference than without them in the SEC, and I personally don't believe that should be a factor in the decision.

This is the surest tip-off of bullsh*& headed our way.
Note -- I imagine you mean this sincerely. But I hope you understand there is a long, long, long, long history on InsideCarolina.com of complete b.s. supposedly coming from "someone high up in the Rams Club".

Kansas? There is no way the BIG is going to do a full payout to Kansas when Oregon and Washington are on a reduced one.

Disappointing. Join the SEC and have an annual home and away with dook in basketball just for fun (and money). Why is this so hard to figure out? My guess is dook is trying to manipulate us to help secure their Power 2 invite.

One of my favorite bits from InsideCarolina.com was 20 (?) years ago.
This poster had it from the highest sources in the Kentucky Wildcat club that they were all set to hire Billy Donovan from Florida as the next coach. He wrote this long post with all these details --> private plane flights and when the press conference was going to be and about his wife going up there with him and on and on and on.
And he had barely hit send -- when ESPN announced Kentucky had hired Billy Gillispie.
Oh well.

I have no doubt this is being discussed. And no doubt UNC would love for this to be known.
Deals are based on leverage. The SEC does not want the B1G to beat them into the Old North State, and UNC does not want to bear any more of the financial burden of leaving the ACC than it absolutely has to.
Keep talking, Rams Clubbers!

Both the SEC and B1G will make overtures. We knew that.
If adding that foursome actually happened, the B1G could probably start up its own airline just to get teams from here to there. Good grief

This will go over like a fart in church on the football board, but, I can see benefits to either one. I can also see a world in which both conferences are trying to make that same exact play if they plan to steal the NCAA tournament.
BIG = more money, AAU (I don't care but the ivory tower does), olympic sports
SEC = better geographic ties to fanbases, still a lot of money, not great for olympic sports, way better for baseball.
I've come to the conclusion that either way, just get on the first train smoking and start getting ready to fund what needs to be funded and if you go to the BIG, that means increasing baseball b/c we need that program to stay strong and BIG baseball is wretched.

When I was in school, there would have been no question, and the answer was the SEC. But when I was in school there was still some respect given to the concept of a student athlete and the role of sports in our UNC experience. So it was never a thought. Our collective history and culture were still tied to the old Southern Conference. Now, I think our collective body of "supporters" of UNC as a whole may be majority BIG oriented. I think the regional history, the transformation to a national and international research University with a massive Health Care system and the historical reputation of the SEC are not quite the taste of the new UNC. Do not be surprised if UNC goes BIG.

Pilot Hospital ? We had an older man in our office years who was a 50+ year member of the Rams Club. He had a clique of 4 or 5 close friends who were also significant, long term Rams Club members. One of them would come up with some notion -- Jim Grobe as UNC's next football coach -- is the one I can remember most vividly. It would take about 4 or 5 phone calls among this little group to transform one guy's idea into an absolute fact that this was what was going to happen. When whatever it was turned out to be just b.s. my office neighbor would just laugh it off. He knew they were all full of sh*&. Thus -- if you really do have legitimate "inside" information, you'll come across as a lot more credible if you don't say it's "inside" information. How close are you to Charlotte. I prefer the B10 but, you can guarantee if we go that route Greg Sankey will be on the phone with NC State before the ink on our contract is dry. Would hate to see them get the boost in recruiting they would get from that move.

BIG vs SEC needs to be predicated on what we think the leagues will be in 10/20 years down the line, although we all know things can change in an instant. The way I see it, the more that pay to play becomes unrestricted, the more the competitive balance shifts towards the BIG.

UNC's preference for where it goes at this point shouldn't be based on companions.
It should be based on terms.
