How the SEC coaches rank Basketball Jobs in the SEC

I don’t agree with that list at all but even more dumb that people want Jans thrown out on the street after one season. Hump needed to be torn down and we needed a total rebuild there

Football would be ranked in the same neighborhood ( or lower ). It’s not easy to win big at State in the big 3 sports other than baseball. It can be done and has been done.

I don't think Texas is anywhere close to #2

That is pretty eye opening that other coaches view state as a worse job than Ole Miss.

That's what I was thinking, it's very bad that the coaches who recruit against us and play against us think we're a poverty program essentially in the league. This isn't like uninformed media making a list, it's all 16 coaches in the SEC. They have no reason to lie, it should be eye opening to everyone that this is how we're viewed.

Yeah, I figured we would be in the 9-10 range. This is disappointing.

It doesn't really matter what the other coaches in the league think of the program. They're not recruiting or coaching here. Anonymous coaching rankings and quotes that come out are always some of the dumbest things publications do. You say they have no reason to lie: coaches make biased comments, anonymously or not, all the time. They're not objective. This list provides no context and there's not idea as to what constitutes the job ranking. Goodman even says in there the coaches used their own judgement on the rankings based on their own parameters. It's useless.

They don't have any more reason to lie about Mississippi State being a bad job than they do Ole Miss, LSU, or Georgia was my point. I like to read what outside people say about our programs, I think it's good to see how we're viewed by our peers when it comes to stuff like this.

The outside people are usually horrifically wrong about msu. They’ve ran their little victory laps over every msu fan that called them out about the past couple of years. I k we I couldn’t take outside views of mid seriously when they said our baseball program wasn’t top 10

I mean, if it's something you want to get upset about that's fine. I'm just pointing out that these lists are dumb. They didn't say anything about State's program, they just put a random list together with absolutely no context. I don't think State's a top tier job, but it's not the second worst job in the entire league.

I'm not upset about it at all, I'm just sharing what the other coaches in the league think about the program, I think it's interesting. It's kinda like when Chris Low wrote that article last year, it's just revealing to me.

Our basketball history seems better to us than it actually is. That being said the majority of our tourney appearances are since 1995 so it’s not like it can’t be done here. No sweet 16 since 96 is a pretty big black mark in the league

Boy that’s sobering seeing that. Not only being 15th but seeing the gap between us & OU/OM/Vandy. Our whole athletic department has a stigma to non biased outsiders of just being a dump and poor as all get out in the NIL era. On the flip side, if this is how our job is viewed, Jans has done one hell of a job then the prior 3 years.

Not sure I believe this is even real. You’ll never convince me that Auburn, LSU, and Georgia are better jobs than Vandy.

Yea, that's another takeaway for me on this, seems like Jans has absolutely overperformed compared to what he had to work with compared to the rest of the SEC.

Because we have a bunch of fans that think those Western Division championships meant anything at all. We won those when: Ole Miss couldn't figure out whether they cared or not. Bama would have one insane year and two down years. LSU didn't know where their arena was Auburn wished no one knew where their arena was Arkansas was still trying to replace Nolan Richardson A lot of those years we were just the tallest midget. But because we won them, our fanbase thinks we have this storied history.

If we had a brand new arena I think we’d be up a few spots. I love the hump but we are so behind there compared to others in our conference. Thanks Cohen

There's nothing wrong with the hump. We should've done a better job with the renovation of the concourse. But the arena itself is as close to perfect as you can get.

Our spending was 12/16 in the SEC during FY 2024. So there's something about the job that coaches view is brining it down beyond just how much the athletic department is willing to spend. I'm sure part of it is location, since Mississippi doesn't produce that many high level players, our lack of success in the tournament, our lack of making it to the tournament before Jans got here, old arena, and I'm sure there's even more stuff I'm not thinking of right now.
