International Name to Know

North Carolina has reached out to Panathinaikos (Greece) forward/center Alexandros Samodurov, multiple sources confirmed to Inside Carolina. His name has been linked to North Carolina because the Tar Heels received a commitment from former teammate Neoklis Avdalas. However, it’s only in recent days that Michael Malone and his staff have begun a serious pursuit of the lanky 6-foot-11 forward, multiple sources confirmed. While a formal school list hasn’t been issued, it stands to reason that any school in the market for a forward/center has at least checked in on Samodurov. He’s recently returned to the court for Panathinaikos after being sidelined for a couple months with a toe injury. Alexandros Samodurov
  • Declared for NBA Draft (June 13 is the cutoff date for draft withdrawal for international players)
  • No. 41 in The Athletic’s Mock Draft
  • No. 72 on ESPN’s Big Board
  • Plays for the same Panathinaikos professional club as fellow Greece native and UNC transfer commitment Neoklis Avdalas. They also have the same agent.
  • Has gotten experience playing for the top level Panathinaikos team in both Greek’s pro league and in EuroLeague, including 30 combined games this season.
  • Averaged 17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 blocks for the Greece national team at last summer’s U20 Eurobasket, earning All-Star recognition. Also played with the Greece senior national team at the Eurobasket in 2025, averaging 4.9 points, 4.6 rebounds.
  • Played in U18 European Championships from 2022-23 and the FIBA U20 Eurobasket from 2024-25.
  • FIBA report said the following about him earlier this year: “The Panathinaikos forward has always been an intriguing prospect with his combination of elite size, ball-handling ability and flashes of passing, shooting and defensive playmaking.”
@SeanMoran scouting notes: Alexandros Samodurov – 5/4 – Panathinaikos (Greece) 6-11, 200-pound, stretch big man. Recently turned 21, plays with one of the top Greek organizations, spending time in the Greek domestic league and Euroleague past two seasons — averaged 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.9 minutes at that pro level. Lacks upper body strength, but a versatile offensive threat. Strong ability to attack off the dribble from the perimeter, solid finisher at the rim with size. Moves well without the ball. Can contest on defense, solid shot blocker, agile in pick and rolls. Last summer was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2025 U20 Euro Championship.

Been waiting for this one. Hope Neo puts in a good word! Get him and Keita in the weight room and on a nutrition plan. Sean May can teach them something about eating.

Would be a big one. Creates a lot of versatility at the 4 and 5 position.

I know we may be done with big men if we get him but I'd love to take a flyer on a big Joel James type. Even with Bennerman as the developmental piece we're real skinny in the post

If THIS is why we have one spot (hypothetically) left with our budget, then let’s get him 20 min at center, 8 at PF, and all the money we have.
