I haven't read the article but hard to argue against Pruitt even though he had an absurd amount of talent. Defense was fantastic in '23 but don't know how much of that was Steele or if it was Saban really taking over the reigns. I'll still lean with Pruitt even though he had a huge talent advantage. Defense with Wommack has been too leaky against the run for me to be that high on him. I view him as better than Golding right now but that's it.

Pruitt is my favorite, maybe over Kirby (hot take) Womack is the best we’ve had outside of those 2

I personally thought Pruitt was better than Smart.

Pruitt’s defenses were going up against plumbers and milkmen. Not a fair comparison. (But to be somewhat serious, comparing what a defense had to do in 2010 vs. 2016 vs. 2022 is not a fair comparison.)

I wouldn't say it's not close, I actually like Wommack's style better but yeah as far as *ss kicking results it's hard to argue against Pruitt. This is a huge generalization, but I'd describe Pruitt's defenses as mean, on-time, and most importantly they were both consistently.

Pruitt’s was certainly better but he also had way more talent to work with due to no NIL and working under the goat.

JP was much more aggressive than KS with his calls. Both had loads of talent to work with but I think Kirby is a little easier to scheme against. Those are the top 2 for me with the edge to JP bc of his aggressive nature KW and KSteele are neck and neck as well for me. I’ll give the edge to KW since he did such a good job from year 1 to year 2. I don’t even count Tosh. Dude was so in over his head that he didn’t make it through a season as the defensive play caller. PG was the worst DC we had under CNS and one of the worst in the history of Bama football.

I couldn't stand Pete Golding, but Kevin Steele was absolutely worse. He was here for three separate stints under Nick Saban and won zero national titles- that is a borderline statistical impossibility.

I’ll say Pruitt, but he also had the most talent of any DC on this list. But the product those defenses put on the field was outstanding. I don’t think Kane is all that far behind though, I’d put him ahead of the rest of the list.

To give Golding a little credit, he was installed as DC during the time when SEC offenses were fully embracing explosive offensive schemes (e.g., spread, air raid, veer and shoot). Took a minute for those of us watching to accept that the corresponding defensive philosophy is to limit explosives and essentially play contain or “bend don’t break.”

Pruitt had 2 and 3 deep starters at most positions. Not that way anywhere today.

I heard Tosh is coming back to Alabama to steal your lawn care business away and secure Tim's yard rights, lawyers and agents are hashing it out but it's not looking good for you according to Tim, apparently Tosh got a last-minute Lambo lawn cutter from Texas to steal Tim away. Texas did this not for their own benefit but purely out of spite.
