Would be sick, but some big boys are offering big money there

He is probably one of the first names in the portal that I think Painter should and would legitimately pursue hard.

Well, we have Smith, Loyer, and TKR coming off the payroll. Hard to think we don’t have a bit of scratch to play with.

Yeah I'm not quite understanding why it's assumed we can't afford to land a top transfer. Between Cliff, TKR, Fletch and Braden that's got to be 6mil in "cap" space. I'm sure the returning guys will get bumped up but surely there's 3-4 million to go get a difference maker. Feels a little like we're resigned to next year not being great and just looking 2 years ahead to make a run...

I have no clue about him coming here, but I know we were on him at some point + he's the exact player type we can never seem to find. A big wing/3 who can do a lot of different things and is athletic. Watching this tourney, it's become evident that positional size and athleticism are pre-prerequisites to winning a title. Michigan just reminded me of 24 UConn. The can rebound very well b/c of size + they can switch everything on defense making getting open shots basically impossible. Obv we saw how hard it was for us vs Arizona as well.

The problem is we already bought Pierce for the same role this year. If we have money to burn, i'd think it would be for a big (probably a one year guy).

Sure, but Paint isn’t getting in a bidding war at that level

I mean - we got Pierce over the likes of UConn, Duke, Louisville, and Gonzaga.

I wasn't saying this guy in particular more just in general every name that pops up we "can't afford" I had admittedly forgotten about pierce, but even with him there's room to add a contributor at C to replace Cluff... Though likely not Flory money

Gotcha. I think we've seen with Cluff and Pierce that Painter/Purdue is willing to pay premium rates for guys that fill needs ... but don't think we will ever go after the absolute top end like Hunter Dickinson in the past or Bidunga this year. Probably not a good investment.

I’d love to insert Budinga into our lineup 2 years ago and replay the games. Just seems both he and the team would have benefited.

The guy has chased the bag at every opportunity (including holding Kansas hostage for more money last year). I love the talent, but guessing he wasn't interested in coming in 2 years ago and competing with TKR.

I am interested in the Serbian kid from Auburn. 3 years of eligibility- 6’8” PF. May not need him for next year but would be great for 27/28

In regards to Michigan, I'm unaware that Mara announced he was leaving?

Have not seen anything official yet .. but most assumed because he's been going up draft boards. I wouldn't be shocked if he came back. Flory could take Morez's role (assuming he leaves for the NBA).

I think there would be opportunity for he, Benter and Pierce at the 3 & 4 spots. He wasn't as good of a 3-point shooter as Benter this season but was still decent at 34%. You only have Pierce for one season while the other two would be Sophs next year.

Still remember him playing with DJ a couple summers ago. He was the only player on the team that looked to pass DJ the ball. High motor, can stretch the floor, absolute perfect fit for Purdue. My dream was that he would get this Duke infatuation out of his system and realize this is the perfect place for him… step 1 complete. That said, doubt we recruit him or he’s interested. We don’t particularly need his skill set as urgently as a big physical presence which he is not. But make no mistake, this guy is a winner.
