From Chris Low: "He’s owed a $38 million buyout that is payable within 60 days of his termination if fired without cause. Stoops said last week that he would not walk away from coaching the team on his own accord, but when school officials approached him about a separation, Stoops said he would be willing to negotiate an agreement that would allow Kentucky to spread out the payments over a number of years instead of paying it all in one lump sum."

This is something that was a top priority for Kentucky. As we reported throughout the process, Mark Stoops had to be willing to play ball on the buyout to make it manageable. Sounds like that happened.

Shows his love for the university and doesn’t want to put them in a financial bind. Gotta give him credit for that.

It was the only way this could happen. No way they were gonna take a loan out to pay the full lump sum.

Good. Some goodwill can now remain and we can continue the push to get Mitch out. Win-win-ish

Good on Stoops if true, and we should be happy with the decision tonight. But this decision by Mitch puts us at a severe, severe financial disadvantage at the very start of a new era where money matters more than other, in a revenue model we’re already way behind on, and where we’re a poor state with limited donors to rescue us.

I think that shows Mark does care about this place and doesn’t want to cripple us. Thanks old friend, we’ll catch you on down the road.

Glad he was willing to do so. Clearly he didn’t want this any longer but we’re talking about major major money. It was a terrible situation Mitch backed us in…

Good on Stoops for that. Now that it's over I hope we as fans come to thank him and appreciate what he did. He should ALWAYS be welcome here.
But it's still f*** Mitch!!!!

This worked out well for both parties. We get to move on with new excitement without as horrible as a financial burden (although it’s still not great), and Stoops leaves on relatively good terms. He’ll get the Tubby treatment eventually
