USC Announced That Chad Baker-Mazara Is No Longer Part Of The Men's Basketball Team

Chad Baker-Mazara is no longer a member of the USC Men’s Basketball program, the team announced Sunday. Baker-Mazara, a graduate student, appeared in 26 contests for the Trojans in 2025-26. USC has two regular-season games remaining, traveling to Washington on March 4 and hosting UCLA on March 7 before the start of the Big Ten Tournament next week.

I don't really follow basketball, but wasn't he our best player? Are we just throwing the towel on the season?

It was pretty clear following yesterday's contest that Coach Muss wasn't happy with CBM's "toughness."

From what I can tell from afar, CBM played hard when he wanted to. Was inconsistent by game. I think his attitude might have forced Muss to protect the team.

Not surprising. He was a very streaky player who had great games but didn’t put out a consistently high effort. His on-court antics and complaining to refs hurt the team multiple times over the year. But this is what you can get with back-to-back all transfer teams. Huge off-season for Muss. He has to bring consistency to the program.

Ehh, two games left….and an inconsequential B1G tourney 🤷🏻‍♂️ 5 losses in a row….season’s in the toilet. ,

Man, oh man. I remember when things were so great not too long ago. In fact during the tournament in Hawaii I told my bruin buddy there was no way USC wasn’t gonna make the tournament and he agreed. We had the outside shooting of Rice, the hustle of Baker and the defensive presence of Dickerson. Fast forward to March 1,2026. This is what we have left.

The Rice injury was more consequential than the Arenas injury. I think SC makes the tourney if Rice hadn’t gone down, even if Arenas never played. It was a solid, not great, team with Rice.

Very disappointed to have things end like this for Chad and SC… but I get it. Chad thought he was on a sweet sixteen team, team injuries took things wrong way, he then got injured himself a few times, and now likely chose his body/zero risk over team,,, which you can’t accept if Muss, specially if just banged up or not super injured. You could see Chad was not focused same as early in year for several weeks honestly. But really stinks.

Chad was considered super talented but immature when he played for San Diego State several years ago. I was hoping that he had matured. Apparently not.

They must have been stressing out and white knuckling it when he made it to game No. 26!

This whole mess with CBM is VERY strongly tied to Arenas

Marc, When he left the game 3 min into the 2nd half, he didn't sit on the sidelines with the team. Was he sit in the fan seats at the end of the floor or was he sitting between MBB personnel?

6'7 Dickerson was a huge loss too because he was the defensive stopper that could guard all over the floor and rebound. He was the Horizon conf defensive POY in the year prior. Much needed in the physical Big10.

He was sitting baseline close to the bench.

I was assuming he just meant a playing time issue once Arenas was back and started getting minutes.

Losing our best player ( Rice) and best defender ( Dickerson) were season killers. The Arenas injury if insignificant compared to these.

His greatest toughness I’m sure is toughness to deal with.

They might have been a tournament team even without Rice had Arenas never played.

I’m pretty sure he found the presence of Arenas to be beyond annoying.
