Day 2 of the ACC tournament was filled with plenty of drama and action. He is a breakdown of all the action from Wednesday.

If you were looking for offense in the final game of the night between the Louisville Cardinals and Virginia Cavaliers, then let’s hope the second half has what you’re looking for. The first half was a defensive fistfight, with neither team able to find any rhythm from the field. Both teams shot at 40 percent or worse; Cardinals are shooting 40 percent from the field, and the Cavaliers are at a lowly 33.3 percent.

The second half was much of the same but ended with Virginia using its defense to smother Louisville’s offense. The Cardinals’ shooting percentage dropped in the second half down to 35.7 percent as Virginia pulled out a 51-50 win. Up next for Virginia is a team they lost to earlier in the season, the No. 4 seed North Carolina Tar Heels.

After the No. 10 seed Clemson Tigers opened up the tournament with a 70-64 victory over NC State on Monday, the Tigers are looking to upset the No.7 Virginia Tech Hokies. So far in this second-round match-up, the Tigers are struggling to keep pace with the hot shooting of the Hokies, in the first half. Virginia Tech leads Clemson 43-32 at the half, shooting a red-hot 75 percent from three and 62.5 percent from the field. If Virginia Tech can finish off Clemson tonight it will go a long way towards their NCAA tournament resume. They are sitting on the bubble as a first-four out team.

What looked like a surefire victory for the Hokies quickly evaporated late in the game. Clemson went on a 14-2 run to take the lead with less than a minute left in the game. The lead would seesaw back and forth in the final minute but would need overtime after Virginia Tech missed a last-second shot to win the game. In overtime, the fireworks continued and it took a last-second 3 Darius Maddox for the Hokies to finally take down the Tigers. Up next for the Hokies is a match-up on Thursday against No. 2 seed Notre Dame.

Boston College pulled off a major upset over No. 5 seed Wake Forest to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive and advance to the next round of the ACC Tournament. The Eagles entered the tournament as the lowest-ranked team but knocked off their opponent for the second consecutive day.

After blowing out Pittsburgh on Day One of the ACC Tournament, Boston College defeated Wake Forest 82-77 in overtime behind 19 points from DeMarr Langford Jr. Quinten Post also added 17 points, four steals and two blocks to help pull off the upset and extend the season.

The Demon Deacons were one of the toughest teams in the ACC all season long, but they will have to wait for Selection Sunday after taking a Quadrant 3 loss as one of ESPN’s Last Four In.

Moreover, earlier Wednesday during the ACC Tournament, Syracuse made an undeniable statement. The Orange didn’t just beat Florida State, they dismantled the Seminoles — sending them packing with a 96-57 loss. Leading the way for the Orange was Cole Swider, who scored a gaudy 28 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the victory.

As for the Seminoles, they had one of their worst losses in recent memory with all the chips on the table. The team looked like they were sleep-walking throughout the game, as Syracuse ran circles and threw down alley-oops around their lackadaisicalness. To illustrate, only one Florida State player scored in double-figures, while four Orange reached the benchmark.

Alas, the ACC Tournament continues throughout the week, with plenty on the line ahead of Selection Sunday. Tensions are high, as several teams are fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives. Duke is playing for a top seed, while North Carolina’s season-ending victory over the Blue Devils was likely enough to punch its own NCAA ticket. Additionally, Notre Dame and Wake Forest are also likely on their way but will need to get at least one win this week to secure their seeding. Meanwhile, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Virginia need a strong showing this week to earn a bid.

Stay tuned throughout the day for live updates on the ACC tournament.
