Ohio State led all evening long against Penn State in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday. That is, until Nittany Lions guard Seth Lundy nailed a 3-pointer with just under six minutes to go to cap off a 12-3 run.

Lundy’s go-ahead 3-pointer was his first of the game, as he finished 1-for-6 from beyond the arc. That shot also gave Penn State its first lead of the game, 56-54 with 5:59 left. The Nittany Lions overcame what was at one time an 11-point second half deficit to earn a 71-68 victory in Thursday’s final game to advance to the quarterfinals to face Purdue on Friday.

Sam Sessoms led Penn State with 18 points in the victory, while Jalen Pickett added 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. EJ Liddell finished with 25 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort for the Buckeyes.

The third game of Day 2 the 2022 Big Ten Tournament between Michigan State and Maryland saw a valiant comeback attempt from the Terrapins late. After trailing by as many as 20 points in the second half, Maryland cut it to just 3 with a late 3-pointer from Fatts Russell with 1:30 remaining. Ultimately, it wouldn’t be enough as the Spartans held on to win 76-72.

The Terrapins found themselves down by 14 points with just seven minutes left in the game. They would go on 14-3 run over the next six minutes to give themselves a chance. However, a late 3-point attempt from Eric Ayala that would have given them the lead fell just short.

The Maryland trio of Russell, Eric Ayala and Donta Scott combined for 50 points in the loss. Max Christie led the Spartans with 14 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Michigan State will move on to face two-seeded Wisconsin at 6:30 p.m. ET Friday in the quarterfinals.

No. 5 Iowa versus No. 12 Northwestern provided its own unique brand of entertainment earlier in the second round of the 2022 Big Ten Tournament. After 11 first-half three-pointers, the Hawkeyes went on to score a tournament record-high 19 three-pointers and 42 field goals. Iowa took the win decisively 112-76 to move onto the quarterfinals versus No. 4 Rutgers on Friday.

Keegan Murray led the Hawkeyes with 26 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Bohannon finished with 17 points with five of the team’s 19 three-pointers. Every player that hit the floor for Iowa scored a point and 10 Hawkeyes hit at least one shot behind the arc.

Following a 41-28 halftime lead for No. 8-seed Michigan, the No.9-seed Indiana Hoosiers turned it on for an 18-2 run in the second half to win it 74-69. They took the lead for the first time since the four-minute mark with 5:32 left to play. The Wolverines brought it back within two points on a 3-pointer by Eli Brooks in the final minute despite 10 second-half turnovers.

The Hoosiers move on to face No. 1-seed Illinois on Friday. Mike Woodson put guard Xavier Johnson on the bench early after two fouls, contributing to their low-efficiency first-half. With Johnson back on the floor in the second half, the Hoosiers came roaring back both offensively and defensively. Trayce Jackson-Davis turned five halftime points into 24 points and put Indiana fans on their feet with multiple dunks. After 13 first-half points for Hunter Dickinson, the Wolverines big man was limited to two in the second half.

After Michigan State-Maryland, No. 11 Penn State and No. 6 seed Ohio State will close out the second round of the Big Ten tournament.
