2022 Four-star Christian Watson Discusses Recruitment, Visits
Christian Watson, the #1 ranked player in the D.C. area, is down to eight schools: Marquette, Providence, Xavier, Rutgers, Georgetown, Miami, VCU, and Penn State. The talented forward has seen three college campuses so far: Georgetown, Xavier, and VCU; with more planned for the future.
Georgetown Unofficial Visit
The Hoyas are less than a half hour drive for Watson, being the closest school, proximity wise, within his top eight.
“They treated me like family,” he said. “My trainer who got me into basketball, who got me really good, Coach Clinton Crouch.. he’s on the staff actually. So I’m very familiar with him and we have a really good connection. And Pat (Head Coach Patrick Ewing) thinks I’m a huge priority for him. He’s coming to see me play Friday. He said I’m going to be the first person he’s going to see play this weekend. They really love me. That’s a huge option on my list.”
I expect Georgetown to be a HUGE contender for Watson. When asked if he feels any pressure to stay home and choose the Hoyas, he replied: “I don’t feel like it’s any pressure to stay home but my family would really like me to stay home. They could come see me at all the home games. We’re only about 25 minutes away. Now, I always wanted to go away for school but if it’s the right fit to stay home, then it’s the right fit.”
VCU Unofficial Visit
The VCU Rams are the second closest-to-home program for Watson, only a couple hours drive.
“They’ve been recruiting me for a long time,” he said. “I’m a huge priority there. They really want me. They are really consistent recruiting me. Some schools offer and then never contact you back. But VCU has been on me for a long time, constantly. Texting me every single day. They think I can make a change in their program. When I went up there, it was for an unofficial visit but I’m thinking about going back for an official visit.”
Xavier Official Visit
Watson’s only official visit thus far has been to see the Xavier Musketeers.
“They treated me really well,” he said. “When I went up there, I think it was about late June… they took me out to eat and we ate really good. The coaching staff is really cool. They all treated me like family and treated my parents like family. Once I got down there, I was really comfortable with them.”
Watson also mentioned that he has been discussing the possibility of teaming up with Tyrell Ward, who recently committed to Xavier.
Although Christian Watson is down to eight programs, he said he hears from Georgetown, Marquette, Miami, VCU, and Xavier the most frequently.
Watson has visit planned for Marquette on August 6th and Miami for September 10th. He’s also working on dates to visit Georgetown officially, and Penn State unofficially. There is also a new school in the mix for Watson, the Florida Gators. They offered last week and Watson said he’s trying to take an official visit to Gainesville to see what they’re all about.
Watson plans to announce a college decision in late September.
