The field is set for the 2022 Jimmy V Classic, according to a report.

Illinois will play Texas, while Duke will play Iowa in the event at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 6, according to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman. That’s quite a field, and it could make for a fun event.

All four teams made the NCAA Tournament last year, and Duke went the farthest of the group. The Blue Devils advanced to the Final Four, where they eventually fell to rival North Carolina in what turned out to be Mike Krzyzewski’s final game at the helm. Now, Jon Scheyer is at the helm and brought in the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class this year, according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.

Texas also has some heightened expectations this year after making the big dance in the first year of the Chris Beard era last year. The Longhorns got a major boost when Timmy Allen announced his return instead of heading to the 2022 NBA Draft, and they brought in former Iowa State standout Tyrese Hunter via the transfer portal. Add in the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation, and there’s reason for optimism in Austin.

Illinois recently landed a big fish in the transfer portal, as well, bringing in former Baylor forward Matthew Mayer last week. The Fighting Illini also have former Texas Tech swingman Terrence Shannon Jr. in the fold, along with four-star recruit Skyy Clark — the nation’s No. 35 player from the class of 2022, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Finally, Iowa lost some star power as leading scorer Keegan Murray headed to the NBA Draft, but return Connor McCaffrey and Kris Murray to the roster. They’ll take on leadership roles after Keegan Murray and Jordan Bohannon departed.

Last year’s Jimmy V Classic featured Villanova, Texas Tech, Syracuse and Tennessee at MSG.
