Michigan power forward Caleb Houstan is off the board in the 2022 NBA Draft. With the No. 32 pick in the second round, Houstan was selected by the Orlando Magic.

A five-star recruit in the Class of 2021, Caleb Houstan is going pro after just one college season. It was a season with high hope for the Wolverines. They only went 19-15 during the season, but still managed to make the NCAA Tournament. There, Michigan had a Sweet Sixteen run, eventually losing to Villanova. That run to the Sweet Sixteen wouldn’t have been possible without Houstan.

Houstan had back-to-back games with 21 points against Rutgers and Illinois, which constituted his career-high in points.

During his one college season, Caleb Houstan averaged 10.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He shot 38.4% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range.

During the lead-up to the NBA Draft, most people expected Caleb Houstan to be taken in the late first round. Yahoo! Sports predicted that he would go 30th, while ESPN had him going 29th. Houstan also worked out for several teams, including the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies during the pre-draft process.

Caleb Houstan is going to need to stretch the court from his power forward position. He has the athleticism and ball-handling ability to do so, too. That extraordinary length has helped to make him a great defensive player too. He has the ability to guard multiple positions.

The problem is that Houstan was inconsistent at Michigan. In particular, he was an inconsistent shooter who will need to improve that to succeed in the NBA after becoming a second round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Caleb Houstan has played for the Canadian national team at the U16, U17, U18, and U19 levels. He will likely continue to grow and develop as a member of Team Canada, alongside his growth and development in the NBA.
