Four-star rising senior Kordelius Jefferson has committed to Houston, he tells On3.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard out of Fort Worth (Texas) Martin chose the Cougars over offers from Tennessee, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UNLV, SMU, and others.

Jefferson is ranked just slightly outside of the top-100, slotting in as the No. 105 prospect in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Jefferson is also ranked as the No. 13 combo guard in the class.

Jefferson talks decision

Just a couple of weekends ago, May 7th to be exact, the ‘Cougs hosted Jefferson for an official visit. During his time on campus, Jefferson was able to meet with the coaching staff and saw how their play styles aligned, ultimately leading him to choose Houston.

“I chose Houston because of the fit, and I know that coach (Kelvin) Sampson could get something out of me as a player that may be a lot of other coaches couldn’t to take my game to the next level,” Jefferson said to On3.

It was Jefferson’s second time making the three-and-a-half hour drive to Houston. He also visited the campus back in February unofficially, where he was in attendance to see the ‘Cougs defeat SMU.

“I really enjoyed how hard they play,” Jefferson said previously of the visit. “That’s what I like to do, get after it, like on defense and the other end. They have a lot of dogs. Jamal Shead, guys like that, they get after it on defense and I liked that about it. The atmosphere and environment was crazy.”

Jefferson also officially visited Tennessee, and made unofficial trips to visit Texas A&M, TCU, and Oral Roberts.

Jefferson describes his game

Kordelius Jefferson says his strengths are “Leading, guarding the other team’s best player, getting my teammates involved, and scoring the ball if I need to.”

The main thing he’d like to improve is his handle with the rock.

“Being a guard, you always want to make sure your handle is right, so just getting the ball on the string more.”
