Class of 2023 point guard Chase Clemmons tells On3 he is down to six schools – Georgia, Houston, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Tennessee State.

Originally from Atlanta, Clemmons transferred to Legacy Early College (S.C) at the start of his junior year.

It should also be noted that while Clemmons is down to six schools, Tennessee and Missouri have not yet made official scholarship offers.

The 6-foot point guard has taken one official visit to Nebraska, and unofficial trips to Georgia, Houston, Tennessee, and Tennesse State.

Clemmons also received offers from Alabama, Auburn, Memphis, Georgetown, among others.

Clemmons talks finalists

Nebraska: “My family, Trey and Bryce McGowens, go there. (The visit) was a great experience. It felt like a home environment. There is family there, so they’re going to treat me like family.”

Clemmons is not blood-related to the McGowens family but says “I call them family because I grew up with them. My family, their family, grew up with each other. We’re real close.”

Georgia: “I really like Georgia. That’s home for me. It would be good to stay home. Me and coach (Tom) Crean have a great relationship. He’s been recruiting me since I was in eighth or ninth grade. They were one of my first high major offers. So we have a great relationship. He’s come to watch me play a couple of times during AAU. When I took an unofficial there, it was a great environment, great facilities too. I didn’t know their facilities were that nice.”

Tennessee: “On my dad’s side, all my family lives in Tennessee. Knoxville is like a second home to me. My unofficial visit went really well. Me and Kennedy Chandler got to chop it up a little bit. He told me a lot about their program and how they’re tough on guards, which is good for me because we are both small guards. So I think that would definitely help me.”

Houston: “Man, I love Houston. Great city. I have a good relationship with coach (Kelvin) Sampson and coach (Quannas) White. They’ve been recruiting me since I was a freshman. I’ve visited there two or three times actually. Me and my family love Houston. All of my family has been up there to visit too.”

Tennessee State: “I love Tennessee State. I love the coaches. Coach Bryan (Collins), Coach Russ (Willemsen)… Me and Coach Russ talk almost every day. He’s a great guy. Coach Bryan is a great person. I really like what they’re doing. They’re trying to switch it up. I really like HBCU’s and the concept of it. I think they could be a great fit too, for sure.”

Missouri: “Coach Cuonzo (Martin) has a great relationship with my dad and me. We talk a lot. He gives me a lot of advice. I really like him, and for me, I’m really big on relationships. I want to be somewhere family-oriented. Even though I haven’t visited, I really like how they try to build a relationship with me. Not a lot of schools do that.”

Clemmons talks timetable and next steps

Clemmons isn’t in too much of a rush to make a decision but he is eyeing a July commitment.

He says his next official visit will be to Tennessee State, and he’d also like to take an official trip to Houston. Clemmons would also like to make a return visit to Tennessee. Dates are currently in the works of being scheduled.

What is Clemmons looking for in a school?

“Definitely a relationship with the coaches, the whole coaching staff. Somewhere I can develop, as a person and a player.”
