There is a buzz coming from the DMV that is circling Caleb Williams. The class of 2024 wing started this summer for 16u Peach Jam champion Team Takeover.

“I played well in July,” Williams told On3. “I was able to help my team succeed through many aspects of the game. I’d say I grew the most in being a leader and vocal for my team and finding other ways to contribute rather than just scoring.”

College coaches have taken notice of the four-star wing. On3 recently caught up with Caleb Williams to talk about the state of his recruitment.

“I took early visits to Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Tech,” Williams said.

Williams talks past visits

“All three schools have shown me a tremendous amount of love since we started talking,” Williams said. “That played a big role in me wanting to go visit.”

Maryland: ” They have had a lot of pros come out of their program. I enjoyed learning about Coach (Kevin) Willard’s plans to make Maryland successful.”

Virginia: “Obviously, the program is very successful; the visit helped me get to know Coach (Tony) Bennett. He seemed very genuine and was all fact-based.”

Virginia Tech: “I got to see how Coach (Mike) Young has quickly been able to turn the program around. They told me about his success at Wofford, where he was before.”

Williams talks future visits

“I’m working on setting up a visit with Michigan,” Williams said. “I want to take some more as the year goes on but haven’t worked to set any up yet.”

Michigan: “They tell me how much they love my feel for the game and how versatile I am. It stands out how much they reach out; I can feel the love for sure, and from a school like Michigan, it means a lot.”

“For schools who haven’t offered yet,” Williams said. “I’m hearing a good bit from NC State, Marquette, Auburn, and Miami.”

In his words

“I’m looking for a program that compliments my style of play,” Williams said. “I want to have good relationships with my coaches on and off the court.

“Both of my brothers currently play college basketball. My oldest brother is Jelani Williams. He graduated at Penn and transferred to Howard for his grad/Covid year. My other brother is Elijah Williams. He plays at Gettysburg college.”

“I’d like to play in a system with sets but allows players to create offense through reads and reactions. A system that also allows guys to make a play.”
