Jacoi Hutchison is the 2023 On3 Consensus No. 93 ranked player. The 6-foot-2 point guard had a big season for Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy.

“I’m a floor general, a play-maker,” Hutchison told On3. “I am playing stronger now; I can see all the hard work I have put in since I came to IMG. Practicing every day against Jaden Bradley and Keyonte George, I can’t help but get better and play faster mentally.

College programs are starting to prioritize him as well. On3 caught up with Jacoi Hutchison recently to talk about this recruitment and which schools were getting the most involved with him.

“I would say I hear the most from Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Villanova,” Hutchison said. “I have not been on any visits, official or unofficial, yet.”

Hutchison talks recruitment

Maryland: “There are a lot of familiar faces at Maryland. I’m from that way, and a lot of the kids I grew up with from neighboring schools all went to Maryland. The new staff called me pretty quickly after they were hired, and I talk with them regularly.

Virginia Tech: “I got a good relationship with coach Mike (Jones). He used to coach me at Dematha. They had a really good season this year, and they want me to come in and play.”

Villanova: “Justin Moore is from Dematha; he is there with a couple other guys from the DMV. They are all big-time guards. They play similar to me, with the big guard style and taking pride in playing defense (editors note – this interview was conducted prior to Jay Wright retiring).

Hutchison’s take

“I will start looking at visits now that my season is over with and go on a few this summer,” Hutchison said. “I’ll be looking for a family environment. I am big on family and love, so someone who shows a lot of love and accountability will be big with me.”

On3’s take

Jacoi Hutchison is a compact point guard with a low center of gravity and excellent balance. He plays with a good pace and gets to his spots in the half-court. He can get you on his hip and play through contact in the land. Hutchinson is shooting the ball better now, especially with the pull-up, but he will need to continue working. He sees the floor well and plays with toughness. His pace has improved this season, and his game has some flair.
