Connor Lew of Achworth (Ga.) Kennesaw Mountain grew up gathering with family on the weekends to watch the Miami Hurricanes play football in the fall.

His father has always been a big supporter of the South Beach powerhouse, and years later Lew is now a 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman with college football aspirations.

On Tuesday, the Lew family gained even more love for the Hurricanes. Miami’s assistant offensive line Garin Justice extended a scholarship offer to Lew.

Lew has watched the Miami Hurricane football team on the television screen for years. The memory of watching the Hurricanes sparked in his mind after the offer.

“It was an exciting moment to know that a school so familiar to me offered me,” Lew said.

Miami swagger already reflected in Connor Lew

Connor Lew has followed the Miami program and its players for a long time. He’s seen the types of players that have come through the program recently and in the past.

“They have a great school tradition,” Lew said. “There are some all-time greats that have gone to the NFL and have become Hall of Famers. Overall, there’s a swag that players carry through them when they move on to the NFL. Everybody says the ‘U’ for a reason.”

Lew has always related to the Miami Hurricane culture. He said he plays the game with the same type of swagger.

“That’s my mentality,” Lew said. “The swagger and everything they do; I think I’d fit in perfectly.”

Outside of the off-the-field allure, Lew’s attraction to the current configuration of the Miami program makes football sense.

“With the new staff they’ve been focused on building depth at the offensive line position,” Lew said. “That sounds like something I want to be a part of. Their run game is important. It’s very familiar to me and it’s something that interests me. The physicality and all kinds of stuff that interests me with a program.”

Other college interest

Connor Lew had a few ACC offers before Miami offered on Tuesday. Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Duke, Vanderbilt and Miami (Ohio) all have offered Lew.

He has already taken unofficial visits to Virginia, the first school to offer, Duke and Vanderbilt. The combination of academics and athletics stand out with all three of those programs for Lew.

“All those places are really good schools in their own way,” Lew said. “Every school has their individual thing. Vanderbilt, I really liked how they merge academics and athletics all into one program.”

Lew has also been in contact with coaches from Auburn, Clemson and Alabama. He hopes that during the upcoming season their interest grows into an offer down the road.

“It just about proving to them that I can play at that high level that they’ve played at these last few years,” Lew said. “I’m just looking for a school that academically and athletically is at a high level.”
