Trey Green is the starting point guard for the top five ranked Branson (MO) Link Academy. The 5-foot-10 class of 2023 prospect plays with an innate toughness that his team feeds off.

“I am a fast-paced guard who can shoot the ball,” Green told On3 after a recent win. “I have become more of a floor-general now, and I play tough defense.”

College programs started to notice him this summer, playing up with the Team Charlotte program on the 17u UAA circuit. Trey Green spoke with On3 about what programs he hears from the most.

Right now, I am hearing the most from Cincinnati, Xavier, Virginia Tech,” Green said. “I just took an unofficial to Cincinnati. I’ve taken an official visit to Nebraska; that is my only one. I am definitely looking to set official visits up with Cincinnati and Virginia Tech.”

Green talks recruitment

Cincinnati: “The atmosphere is amazing there. The crowd is really into it. From top to bottom, I love the coaching staff; coach (Wes) Miller is great. I learned a lot about their system when I was on the visit and how they like to play. They are a fast-paced team and like their guards to get downhill. I feel that fits right in my arsenal.”

Nebraska: “It was fun there. The crowd was really into it. They don’t have a pro team in the area, so it is only Nebraska athletics. The people in the community are really into it. It is just a fun place to be at.”

Virginia Tech: “Coach (Mike) Young and his system are standing out. He lets his point guards run and play fast. I’m from Charlotte, so Blacksburg is close to home, and they are in the ACC, which is always good.”

Kansas, Texas, Ole Miss, and a couple more who haven’t offered are reaching out to me a good bit,” Green added.

Green’s take

“I’m going to wait until after Geico and Peach Jam to make any decisions,” Green said. “I am going to be looking at the atmosphere, the crowd. I want to go to a place that has a family fit; trust is big with me. I will look closely at the system and how I can see myself playing there. I want to play fast-paced in a system that allows guards to get downhill and control the show.”

On3’s take

Trey Green is a feisty point guard who simply produces. He comes by it honestly as his father, David Green, was a D-I quarterback who threw for over 1,500 yards at Duke. Trey has a tight handle and likes to play aggressively downhill. While on the small side, he plays a fearless style of on-ball defense. Green is a smooth shooter with deep range. He has good footwork on both ends of the floor. Green can get tunnel vision at times, but he has done an excellent job of learning how to run a high-level team this season. The college that goes in on Green will have to like smaller guards, but there is a lot of fight and skill in this one.
