Coen Carr came in at No. 45 in On3’s recent 2023 rankings update. The 6-foot-6 forward is a high-flying wing whose toughness and explosion turned heads for Greenville (SC) Legacy Early College on the NIBC this season.

“I feel like a wing that plays both sides of the floor, not only play defense,” Carr told On3. “Do whatever it takes, whether that’s making plays for others, putback dunks, rebounds, steals, or blocks. I can do a lot for my team on both sides. I like DeMar DeRozan, Vince Carter, and Zach Lavine. They play hard, are good transition players, and have the mid-range jumper and the three-pointer.”

He was one of the standout performers at EYBL Louisville for the Georgia Stars averaging 13.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game, shooting 60.4-percent from the field in the five games. On3 recently met with Coen Carr to talk about his recruitment and upcoming visits.

Indiana is the only junior year official visit I’ve taken,” Carr said. “I got an official visit to Vanderbilt in mid-June, and I’m setting one up to Tennessee too.”

Carr talks visits

Indiana: “I learned a lot. There was a family feel. The fans were chanting my name, calling my name out, and asking for pictures. The coaches act like I’ve been there for a year or two. It’s a natural home feel. They want me to play the wing, but defensively they want me to guard one through four possibly, so they want me to be versatile.”

Vanderbilt: “Coach (Jerry) Stackhouse has been to the NBA. I feel like his game is kind of similar to mine, the way he plays, up and down, transition, a big 6-foot-8 wing.”

Tennessee: “They have a history of getting big wings to the draft, like Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield, players like them, and getting them in the NBA.”

Baylor and Auburn are interested,” Carr said. “They’ve been talking about how they want to use me on offense, use me at the two, if a smaller player is guarding me, take them down and post up.

Carr’s take

I would like to have a decision made by August,” Carr said.

“I’m looking for a program that will make me a better player on the court, but off the court also,” Carr said. “Somewhere that’s going to make me a better man. Obviously, I want a school that will develop me, make my weaknesses into strengths, and a team that’s not slow. A school that likes to get up and down and play in transition.”
