Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab junior linebacker Jaiden Ausberry has a top 10 list already narrowed down. But an offer from the Miami Hurricanes has seemingly changed that list.

“It meant a lot,” Ausberry said. “That’s probably one of the best programs in football ever, especially back in the old days. They have countless All-Americans and Hall of Famers. That’s something to really keep in mind. The ultimate goal is to make it to the league, and they’ve put a lot of guys in the league. It was an honor.”

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker is ranked the 64th best player in On3’s top 100 for the class of 2023. He has already listed a top 10 of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Texas, Michigan, Notre Dame and USC.

Miami has Jaiden Ausberry’s attention

A call with Miami outside linebackers coach Ishmael Aristide turned into an offer. Aristide laid out a plan for how the Hurricanes would use Ausberry in their defense.

“He was talking about how I could play linebacker and rush from the edge a little and use my speed,” Ausberry said.

The history at the linebacker position has Ausberry listening to what the Hurricanes have to offer.

“They’ve had a lot of first-rounders at linebacker and sometimes I think that maybe that could be me in that Hurricane uniform,” Ausberry said.

Ausberry hopes to take his first trip to Miami’s campus this fall now that the Hurricanes have offered. Ausberry has been to the city of Miami but has never been on the school’s campus.

“I want to see what the culture is like over there and see what their football program is doing because that’s a big decision,” Ausberry said.

Meeting the coaches is a priority for Auberry. He also places a high priority on seeing a school on game day.

Ausberry says he’ll visit all of the schools in his top 10 and more in the fall. He doesn’t have any games set in stone yet but wants to see, “as many schools as I possibly can.”

“I think it’s really important to see how a gameday works at other schools,” Ausberry said. “You get to see how coaches bring energy and you see how the stadium is, how loud it is and how you feel in it. It’s a big factor.”
