Class of 2023 four-star Garwey Dual has committed to Providence, he tells On3.

The 6-foot-5, 175-pound point guard out of Carmel (Ind.) High becomes the Friars first commitment to the class. Dual received offers from the likes of NC State, Arizona State, TCU, VCU, amongst others.

Dual is ranked as the No. 62 overall prospect in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are much higher on Dual, ranking him 44th overall in the class. Surprisingly, this time last year Dual was unranked.

“I like to let my defense start everything off,” Dual recently told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “Get a couple of stops and let it get my offense going. I don’t like to force things, being in the flow of my game. My confidence has grown so much recently, I’ve always had the skills, but my confidence is big now. I like to watch Allen Iverson, and then mixtape guys like Corey Sanders and Dwayne Bacon.”

Dual talks commitment to Providence

“The reason I chose Providence is because the energy me, the staff, and players had off the rip. Nothing was forced and they have a history of being able to help players become successful on and off the court, especially with their recent history with big guards like myself. All in all, I just felt like it was the best move for me!”

“The connection was quick,” Dual recently said to On3’s Jamie Shaw. ”We met and the connection was crazy. They have a history with long guards like me, and they have a history of geting those long guards to the league and preparing them for the next level. They develop players and get them better.”

Providence loaded in 2022

Providence fans will have to wait another year for Dual to arrive on campus, but not long at all to welcome in their seven-man 2022 recruiting class. Headed to Rhode Island from the high school ranks is Jayden Pierre (four-star) and Quante Berry (three-star). Additionally, the Friars hit the portal this offseason, landing commitments from Bryce Hopkins (2.1 PPG at Kentucky), Noah Locke (9.6 PPG at Louisville), Devin Carter (9.0 PPG at South Carolina), Corey Floyd Jr. (redshirted at UConn), and Clifton Moore (12.9 PPG at La Salle).
