Four-star shooting guard Taison Chatman tells On3 he’s scheduled his first two official visits. The 6-foot-3 prospect out of Minneapolis (Minn.) Totino-Grace will visit UConn on June 19th-20th and Xavier on June 22nd-23rd.

Chatman is ranked as the No. 44 overall prospect in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

So far, Chatman has only taken unofficial visits to Minnesota and Iowa.

Chatman talks schools involved

In a previous interview with On3, Chatman discussed a handful of programs involved in his recruitment.

Minnesota: “They are the hometown state, so I knew a lot about them going into the visit. Their fans really love their sports and are all about their sports teams. Every time you go there, it is a lot of love.”

Iowa: “They play really fast for a Big 10 team. I like to play really fast too. Coach (Fran) McCaffery tells me he likes how I play and thinks I can fit in with what they do.”

Texas: “They have a lot of depth. They produce a lot of NBA-ready guys every year. I feel like people who go there are destined to go to the league.”

Northwestern: “They are a high academic school, so they are all about grades which caught my eye. Player-wise, they play five out and throw in a couple ball screens. I think one of the best parts of my game is my reads in ball screens, so I think I could fit in with their play style.”

Xavier: “They just got a whole new coaching staff, so I am interested in seeing what Coach (Sean) Miller is going to bring to the program.”

What’s Chatman looking for in a program?

“I want to get a feel for the relationship with the coaches,” Chatman said to On3’s Jamie Shaw. “That is a huge part for me. Play-style will be big; I want to play in a fast system.

Scouting Summary

“Taison Chatman has a basketball frame with good size and nice length. What stands out the most in his game is his ability to play in the pick and roll. He can make all the reads and does so with a never rushed pace. The motor can get hot and cold, and there are times when he looks disengaged. Chatman has deep range, and he is comfortable off the bounce or off the catch. He is an intriguing 2/1 combo guard who can play off the ball or initiate in certain offensive sets.” – Jamie Shaw, On3’s National Recruiting Analyst

“I am a little bit of everything,” Chatman recently told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “I can facilitate, shoot; whatever my coaches need me to do, I feel I can do it all. I have been putting on good weight and playing better with the physicality. I watch a lot of Damian Lillard and Devin Booker, how they get to their spots and can raise up.”
