Trey Green is On3’s No. 72 ranked player in the 2023 class. The 5-foot-11 point guard helped lead his Branson (MO) Link Academy team to Final Four birth in the Geico National Championships and a top-ten finish.

“I have become more of a leader this season,” Green told On3. “My defensive game has improved, and I have a feel for a true point guard; when to get my teammates involved and when to go get my shots. I watch a lot of Damien Lillard, his willingness to take over a game, and his dog mentality I’m inspired by.”

He has helped lead his MoKan Elite team to a 12-1 record on Nike’s EYBL Circuit this season, averaging 12 points per game and shooting 46.8-percent from three. On3 caught up with Trey Green at the Pangos All-American Camp to talk about his recruitment.

“I only took one junior year official visit to Nebraska,” Green said. “I plan on taking the rest of my officials in September when most of the people start coming back on campus. During football season, I will get that full on-campus experience.”

Green talks recruitment

Nebraska: “It was fun, a great atmosphere to be around. The fans go crazy for Nebraska, and I loved their facilities and everything about their campus.”

“I have three upcoming official visits set so far,” Green said. “I’ll go to Virginia Tech on September 9, Xavier the following weekend, and Cincinnati the weekend after. I’m still talking with Clemson and VCU about setting possible official visit dates.”

Xavier: “I love coach Sean Miller. He has produced guys into the league. Coming from Arizona, he is now back at Xavier, which shows Xavier trusts him to bring him back.”

Cincinnati: “I love Wes Miller. Going into college, I want a point guard coach who knows that position and can help me get to where I want to get, the NBA. A coach who knows that position like the back of his hand will help me get to that next level.”

Virginia Tech: “Coach (Mike) Young has produced since his first year there. He won the ACC Tournament last year and has been on me for a long time. He actually wanted me to come in 2022, but we just couldn’t quite make it happen. He’s invested in me for sure.”

Green’s take

“When I take these visits, I’m going to be looking closely at the program and how they run it,” Green said. “I want to look at the family atmosphere. I’m going to look at the system at each place. I feel like I play best in a fast-paced type of system but also a controlled system. I will be really mindful of the area, the family atmosphere, and the playstyle.”
