Arguably the biggest college football game of Week 5 will take place between the hedges in Athens, Georgia, and elite 2022 defensive lineman Shemar Stewart will be there to see it.

Stewart, the No. 11 overall player in the 2022 On300 rankings, tweeted Monday afternoon that he’ll be in Athens when No. 2 Georgia hosts No. 8 Arkansas Saturday morning.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Stewart is On3’s No. 4 defensive lineman in the 2022 class. And the Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace product is one of the biggest remaining defensive targets still on the board. Texas A&M, Miami, and Ohio State are still vying for his services, but the Aggies, Buckeyes and Bulldogs appear to be pulling ahead. Stewart did visit attend Miami’s game against Alabama in Atlanta, and he took unofficial visits to all four schools over the summer. He has an official visit scheduled to Texas A&M for October 8, but nothing else is on the board yet.

Scouting Shemar Stewart

Alongside Walter Nolen, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy and Mykel Williams, Stewart is one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the country, and his five-star status shows that.

“Shemar Stewart has long been considered one of the top prospects in the 2022 cycle,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power said last month. “He’s a physically gifted defensive lineman with a big frame and outstanding length.”

“…Stewart is a natural mover and shines in the camp setting. He’s had some dominant moments on Friday nights, as well. Stewart missed much of his junior season with an injury but looked back to form in the spring with a dominant spring game showing.”

Georgia locking down another big class

No program in college football has landed more elite high school talent over the past three years than Georgia has. Head coach Kirby Smart has dominated the state, which produces more NFL talent per capita than anywhere else. But he’s taken Georgia national. Three of the Bulldogs 10 commits in the 2022 On300 hail from outside the Peach State, and Stewart is another possible addition to that.

In total, the Bulldogs have landed a top-five recruiting class in each of the past five cycles, and they look well on their way to doing so again. Whether they’ll be able to fend of Texas A&M and Ohio State for Stewart, giving them their second five-star in 2022, remains to be seen. Getting him on campus for what should be a raucous atmosphere definitely won’t hurt, though.
