Cypress (Texas) Cy Park Five-Star Plus+ linebacker Harold Perkins has decommitted from Texas A&M, as first reported by Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports and confirmed by On3’s Gerry Hamilton.

“This has been one of the hardest decisions to make, but I will be decommitting from Texas A&M and will announce my decision February 2 at my school,” Perkins told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Perkins went on an official visit to Florida earlier in the month and will be on an official visit to LSU this forthcoming weekend.

Perkins is the No. 3 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He is the top linebacker in the 2022 cycle.

Perkins was a key part of Texas A&M’s No. 1 recruiting class in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.

The Aggies had three of the top four recruits in the country in Perkins, Powell (Tenn.) High defensive lineman Walter Nolen and Frisco (Texas) Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart.

His visit to Gainesville, Fla., went well and he told Gators Online that the coaching staff gave him something to think about.

“It was fun; it was exciting,” Perkins said after his official visit. “Feels like the new staff is bringing new things in and I like it. I like how they’re spending more money on the players and investing in the players.”

Perkins announced his commitment to Texas A&M during the Under Armour All-American Game.

On3 National Recruiting Analyst Gerry Hamilton named Perkins to his all-effort team at the game.

“The On3 Consensus five-star will line up at both linebacker and running back in the game January 2,” Hamilton said. “He’s a player that played both ways the last two seasons at Cy Park, and is always moving full speed. Perkins personality can be a bit misleading as he is laid back and will often times act nonchalant, but don’t mistake that for a lack of effort on the field.”
