Over the past 12 months, Mayar Wol has taken huge steps forward in his game. It seems to have all been about confidence for the 6-foot-7 wing from Hickory (NC) Moravian Prep.

“I’m a very versatile wing,” Wol told On3. “I can bring the ball up the floor like a point guard, I’m a three-level scorer, and can use my length to defend. I watch a lot of Kevin Durant; the way he plays offensively creates space and gets into his shot.”

Playing this summer with Team Loaded NC on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, Wol has experienced flashes of some substantial scoring outputs. On3 caught up with Mayar Wol recently to discuss which schools prioritize him in recruiting.

“I have offers from Ole Miss, Georgia, NC A&T, Rutgers, St. John’s, and a couple more. No visits are set as of right now, but I know I’ll probably visit Rutgers, and we are figuring out the others.”

Wol talks recruitment

Rutgers: “Their communication with me stands out. They talk to me all the time, checking in on me. I have done some research on them, and it looks like they like long wings that can run and put the ball in the goal. I am that.”

Georgia: “I know Ant (Anthony Edwards) went there. They like to play fast and shoot the ball; that fits how I play.”

St. John’s: “They tell me they like big guards who can handle the ball and grab and go. They like to shoot threes as a team and play in transition. They talk to me a lot, checking in and sending me little videos to watch.”

“I hear from Miami, Cincinnati, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech,” Wol said. “I am not sure what they are waiting on to offer, they all just want me to go on a visit and they talk to me a lot.”

Wol’s take

“I’m looking to build relationships with the programs,” Wol said. “See how I am with the team and with the staff. I want to find my place with the team, how they play, how they see me fitting in, and how I can contribute.”

On3’s take

Mayar Wol is a lengthy wing who is very fluid in his movements. He plays with some pop around the basket and can get up on the rim in traffic. Wol can be a shot-maker; he takes them with range and confidence off the catch. He will need to continue working on the shot mechanics as it is a little low and off-center to the right causing it to go off-line at times. Wol can handle the ball in the open floor, but he needs to tighten it in the half-court. Wol has taken an enormous step forward from last season, and there is continued growth and confidence in his game regularly. Watch this one closely; the late-bloomer may not be the same player he is now in two years.
