AJ Johnson, the No. 15 overall prospect in the 2023 On3 Consensus, will no longer officially visit Southern California as planned on September 3, a source told On3.

We were told the visit was postponed; however, a make-up date has yet to be rescheduled.

The 6-foot-5 point guard from Fresno, California, will play his senior season at Los Angeles (CA) Donda Academy. Johnson now has three visits set, Texas on September 10, LSU on September 17, and NC State on September 24. The five-star says he will visit also visit Louisville.

AJ Johnson told On3 he wants to commit on or around his birthday, December 1.

There is no doubt Southern California wants to bring in a point guard in this class. However, they have their iron in the fire with a few others at this point.

Southern California is in the thick of things is the No. 2 player in On3’s 2022 rankings, Isaiah Collier. They also have four-star point guard Silas Demary, Jr., on an official visit this weekend (September 2).

USC has an offer out to four-star point guard Bronny James, as well as NBA Academy’s Niccolo Moretti, and four-star Josh Hubbard.

If Johnson re-sets his official visit date with Southern California, On3 will certainly bring you the news.

Johnson’s scouting report

AJ Johnson is a jet-fast point guard with elite end-to-end speed. He has great length and good size as a lead guard. Johnson will need to add weight; he is very skinny at this point. But his burst and explosion get him to his spots. Johnson is decisive getting downhill, using his dribble to attack the paint. Johnson has upside on defense with his length and quick twitch. The pull-up jump shot is a weapon in the mid-range. He is an above-average shooter that could continue to tighten. His natural tools are impressive, and as he continues to add weight, his ceiling is as high as any player in the 2023 class.
