Let’s breakdown this week’s top 25 teams from the latest AP Poll.

1. Georgia

The Bulldogs didn’t have to sweat much in Week 2 as they dominated Tennessee Tech 48-3. It was an FCS opponent, but nothing changed how the poll sees Georgia following season-opening wins over Clemson and Tennessee Tech.

Carson Beck and the offense cruised. The defense meanwhile, held the Eagles to just 134 yards of offense. Next up, Kentucky.

2. Texas (+1)

The Longhorns are for real. Now, it remains to be seen what kind of team Michigan is going to be this year, but Texas made a statement for this week’s poll.

The 31-12 win inside the Big House wasn’t even that close on paper. Quinn Ewers was efficient, the defense was suffocating and Michigan forgot how to operate an offense. National title contender status confirmed.

3. Ohio State (-1)

The Buckeyes didn’t need much in a 56-0 win over Western Michigan over the weekend. Jeremiah Smith dominated and the freshman is fun to watch.

The polls should love Ohio State all year if the Buckeyes play like this. It’s nice to see a balance between Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson at RB. This is a dangerous unit.

4. Alabama

Alabama and South Florida played another weird game. Sure, the Crimson Tide scored 28 points in the fourth quarter, but this was a one score game going into the final 15 minutes.

Still, the Crimson Tide won convincingly, in the end at least. Kalen DeBoer’s team does not have  a blemish on the record as of now.

5. Ole Miss (+1)

The Rebels wanted to move up in this week’s poll and made a good case this weekend. Maybe not as good as Jaxson Dart’s early case for the Heisman Trophy though.

Dart threw 24 straight completions and finished with 377 yards and a touchdown in a 52-3 win over Middle Tennessee State. SEC play should be interesting, but this team can absolutely light up a scoreboard.

6. Missouri (+3)

Missouri opened the season with back to back shutouts and that’s pretty darn impressive. Not only that, but the Tigers scored 89 points in the two games.

Eli Drinkwitz has the team humming right now. Sure, SEC play hasn’t started yet, but there’s no doubt Missouri is carrying over a little bit of magic from 2023.

7. Tennessee (+7)

Nico Iamaleava is for real, you can’t deny that now. Through the first two weeks of the regular season, the Tennessee quarterback has looked like the best player on the field.

If he’s going to be this good, Tennessee is not a team to be trifled with. It seems like there are a bunch of teams that are vying to catch Georgia or at least be a breakout team in the SEC. Tennessee could be just that considering the Volunteers might have the an elite quarterback.

8. Penn State

Penn State had some trouble with Bowling Green. So much so, people were thinking upset at some points during Saturday’s contest.

But in the end, the better team won, we think? It could just be a blip on the radar for Nittany Lions as they move forward in the schedule. On paper, this team should compete with Ohio State for the top of the Big Ten.

9. Oregon (-2)

Oregon edged out Boise State in a thriller on Saturday night. Dropping two spots despite remaining undefeated, the AP voters came away less than impressed with the Ducks through the first two weeks.

Dan Lanning and company are still loaded on paper and there’s a long season to go. Over the next 10 games, they might be proven right.

10. Miami (+2)

The Miami Hurricanes are for real. They have to be after dominating Florida and then Florida A&M. Two weeks in and it’s clear Mario Crisotbal’s team is at least the best in the Sunshine State.

Jokes aside, Cam Ward has early Heisman buzz this season and this appears to be the best team in the ACC at this point in the season. This is just what the doctor ordered in South Florida.
