Asa Newell, a five-star recruit in the 2024 class, has received nearly 20 high-major offers. Out of the laundry list of programs, the 6-foot-9 power forward out of Montverde (Fla.) Academy says eight schools are recruiting him the hardest. With that being said, his recruitment still remains fully open.

Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Kansas, Arkansas, Indiana, Florida, and Texas,” Newell responded when asked via text message.

According to the On3 Consensus, Newell ranks as the No. 10 overall prospect in the country. The On3 Consensus is the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).

Newell has taken official visits to Georgia (where his older brother Jaden plays) and Indiana.

Newell talks Georgia, Indiana

In a previous interview with On3, Newell discussed the two programs he’s officially visited — Georgia and Indiana.

Georgia: “Coach Erik Pastrana gave me me my first offer when he was at Oklahoma State. He’s really shown love from the get-go. He’s watched me and my game grow. Obviously, my brother (Jaden Newell) is a freshman there. He loves it down there. He’s saying coach Mike (White) is doing a good job of developing players. I want to go somewhere where I can play, and play through mistakes, and where I can develop. I grew up in Athens and lived there for ten years.”

Indiana: “Coach Ya (Yasir Rosemond) coach Brian (Walsh, and my boy Adam (Howard), they’ve all done a good job recruiting me. Texting me every day. I want to see what they do with Trayce (Jackson-Davis) and Malik Reneau. They have really good fans too. I’m just evaluating them this season and see what they have to offer as a basketball school.”

Scouting Summary

“Asa Newell is a lengthy forward with a projectable frame,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “The frame is what you notice from the second he walks on the floor. The lefty has soft touch with range that extends beyond the three-point line, especially off the catch. He is comfortable driving left aggressively. He is an instinctive offensive rebounder, and he is not afraid to mix it up in traffic and hunt put-back dunks. Newell will need to continue developing the right hand and progressing with his middle game. Strength will also be a thing with the 6-foot-9 forward. However, with his size, skill set, and quick-twitch athleticism, when his motor runs hot, there is a lot of production he brings to the court.”
