Despite many thinking he could be on his way out after yet another tough loss, Auburn coach Bryan Harsin will remain employed for the time being. ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg has tweeted that the Tigers announced upcoming media opportunities for Harsin, indicating he will remain their head coach for the time being.

There was no word that Harsin was going to be fired this weekend but another tough loss brought further uncertainty to his future. Auburn was 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the SEC entering this weekend. But the Tigers lost to LSU, 21-17 with a brutal scoreless second half of play to fall to 3-2 and 1-1 in the league. There was not much that went right for Auburn in the loss.

Quarterback Robby Ashford did throw for 337 yards and two touchdowns but he and Koy Moore both threw interceptions that hurt the Tigers. Auburn did not get any touchdowns on the ground and leading rusher Tank Bigsby had just 45 yards. The Tigers as a team had 101 yards between four ball carriers. LSU ran for success on the Auburn defense, going for 185 yards and two touchdowns as a team.

The loss to LSU came on the heels of a narrow win over a struggling Missouri team. Auburn needed Missouri to miss a field goal in regulation and then fumble a game-winning touchdown run in order to hold on for the 17-14 win. That game then resulted in ESPN radio host Paul Finebaum declaring that Harsin had, “nowhere to go,” with Auburn.

“I was watching that game on a plane,” Paul Finebaum said of the Auburn-Missouri game, “About 32,000 feet, which is good in this because there’s nowhere to go. … I don’t know what I would’ve done had I been in the stadium in the Auburn section or even worse on the Missouri sideline. I mean, look, there’s nothing else I can add in terms of the ineptitude. But, I just came away really depressed about both programs and the future of both programs. To me, the Bryan Harsin conversation has nowhere to go. It’s over for Bryan Harsin. He has made no compelling argument to keep his job.”

A tough road lies ahead

Now sitting at 3-2 overall, Auburn looks to turn things around. It will certainly not be easy, though. Three of the next four opponents the Tigers face are ranked and the only one not ranked is SEC West foe Arkansas, which fought Alabama tough over the weekend.
