Big Ten teams are in the thick of conference play, with five important matchups taking place throughout Saturday. But it’s never too early to begin thinking about next season, although there is no schedule. That will change this week, as the Big Ten is set to announce their 2023 football schedule.

Teams mostly know who they will be playing, whether it’s nonconference games, divisional matchups, or the annual cross-division showdowns. Exact dates will become official on Wednesday, with the Big Ten releasing the full schedule at noon ET.

As of now, the SEC is the only other major conference that has released its 2023 schedule. It’s the final time the Big Ten will have their modern scheduling format, with USC and UCLA heading into the conference for the 2024 season. This time next year, things will look a whole lot different.

Big Ten to host important games during 2023 season

While it’s not official until it’s official, the conference’s most important matchup, The Game between Michigan and Ohio State, has a usual date. The Buckeyes and Wolverines face off against one another on the Saturday after Thanksgiving which falls on Nov. 25, 2023.

The Big House will play host next season, where Michigan won the 2021 matchup. Jim Harbaugh can be the first Wolverines head coach to win back-to-back home games in the rivalry since Lloyd Carr in the late 1990s.

From the nonconference perspective, Michigan State will have a Pac-12 power come into Spartan Stadium. Washington played hosted during 2022 and now, Mel Tucker will have the opportunity to get revenge.

Penn State will renew an old rivalry as well, with West Virginia coming to town. It’s been since 1992 when the local foes met up with one another. A special atmosphere in Happy Valley should welcome the series back in a positive fashion.
