Big Ten dominates one college football, basketball stat

The Big Ten conference truly dominates the competition in both college football and basketball. Over the last ten seasons, the four teams with the most combined AP Poll appearances in football and basketball all come from the Big Ten.

This stat goes back ten seasons, meaning that the 2011-2012 season is the first in these rankings.

Ohio State Buckeyes, 290: Since the 2011-2012 season, Ohio State has made the NCAA tournament in basketball seven times. The Buckeyes made it to the Final Four in the 2011-2012 season. In football, Ohio State has not lost more than two games since the 2011 season. The Buckeyes have made the College Football Playoff in three of the last five years. Ohio State is currently No. 10 in the latest AP Poll.

Wisconsin Badgers, 253: Wisconsin has eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament since the 2011-2012 season. They made it to the Final Four in 2014, and lost in the National Championship to Duke in the 2015 season. The Badgers have been very good in football as well. Wisconsin has won six of its last seven bowl game appearances. The Badgers are one of the most successful teams in both sports, and are currently ranked No. 18 in the football AP Poll.

Michigan State Spartans, 244: The Spartans have seen great success on the court in recent years. Michigan State has made the NCAA Tournament in each year it has been held over the last ten seasons. Last season, the Spartans lost in the First Four round of the tournament. They have made the Final Four in two of the last ten seasons. Michigan State has won seven games seven times in the last ten years. They are currently ranked No. 20 in the AP Poll and are one of the most rapidly rising teams in football.

Michigan Wolverines, 227: Michigan has been known for some incredible runs in the NCAA Tournament in recent years. The Wolverines have made it to at least the Sweet Sixteen six times in the last ten seasons, including two finishes as the runner-up. Michigan has finished above .500 in all but two of the last ten years. The Wolverines have not won a bowl game since 2015, but are surging and look strong in 2021. Michigan is looking like one of the biggest bounce-back teams in football, as they are at 19 in the latest AP Poll.

Oklahoma Sooners, 224: Oklahoma is the lone non-Big Ten team to crack the top five on this list. The Sooners have made it to the NCAA Tournament seven times in the last ten years, including a Final Four run in 2016. On the football field, Oklahoma has won ten games in all but two of the last ten years. Oklahoma is one of the best teams in football and currently sits fourth in the latest AP Poll.
