Cam Scott is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after wings in the class of 2024. The 6-foot-5 Lexington (SC) High sophomore spent his summer trying out for the 16U Team USA team and leading his Team United AAU program to the 15u Peach Jam Championship game.

“I try and have the most energy on the floor,” Scott told On3 after a recent playoff win. “I get up and down the floor well, and I can create space off the dribble. My shot and handle have tightened up this season, and my confidence is higher. I watch many of the longer two-guards, Kevin Durant Paul George. I watch their pace and how they get to the spots in the mid-range area to pull up.”

Scott scored his 1,000th varsity point earlier this season, and he was recently named Conference Player of the Year and all-state for the second time. College coaches have also taken notice of his success. Cam Scott recently spoke exclusively with On3 about upcoming and previous visits.

“I’ve taken visits to Clemson, Florida State,” Scott said. “I have been to South Carolina a couple of times. I went up to UNC last weekend.”

Scott talks visits

Clemson: “I learned how they internally prepared for games. We got to see the board and see the game prep; that was one of the things I was looking for going in. We got to go and see how they executed their game plan. I think their preparation is something that I bought back with me. They have a great campus, a lot of orange. They have a great fan base; throughout the whole town, it is just Clemson everything, everywhere. Coach (Dick) Bender is the main coach recruiting us.”

South Carolina: “They are all about grit and grind. Watching how they prepare throughout the week, getting in the gym, in the weight room, eating right, I like how they prepare for every game. And that helps them to go out every game and play physically tough defense. They are stressing to me to stay home and be a hometown hero. They like that I can be a long-wing defender and how that fits with how they play. Their whole staff stays in contact with us.”

Florida State: “We had a good visit. They talked to me about learning how to use my body, playing my physical, and taking more contact. That will result in more hits, but I will just have to get my body ready for that. We went down there for a game; it was intense, very fun. The crowd was live and exciting. Coach (Steve) Smith is the one who talks with us.”

North Carolina: “That is a different type of atmosphere. The fans come out with intensity, no matter who they are playing. That was the biggest takeaway I had from the visit. I like the blue color. They have a very nice campus. Coach (Jeff) Lebo is the main one in contact with us.”

Scott talks upcoming visits

“We are going to go to South Carolina again this weekend and try to go up to Wake Forest the following weekend,” Scott said.

South Carolina: “I have been to South Carolina; this will be the fourth time, I believe. I keep coming back because of the love they show for me, and that is what is separating them from any other school, the love they show for me, and I want to return the favor to them.”

Wake Forest: “I have not been up there yet. I have been watching a lot of their games as they are playing – and beating – some other teams I have been watching. Last night they competed with Duke; they compete every night. That has been impressive. Coach BJ (McKie) has been the one that is recruiting us.”

Scott’s take

“I am enjoying the experience of recruiting,” Scott said. “I’m trying to take away the little details to help with the bigger picture. I feel like the biggest thing for me will be a style of play. I want to go somewhere where I can feel comfortable to give my best and help the team win.”

On3’s take

Cam Scott is a lengthy wing prospect with a lot of pop. The natural tools are very impressive all the way around. Scott has a mature game, plays within the flow of the offense, rarely forces things. The jump shot release can be cleaned up a little, but the pull-up is smooth. Since the summer, Scott has developed his footwork and handle in the half-court, creating space to elevate into his jumper. Scott can take over a game carry his team. Strength will come, and he is tracking as one of the top players in the 2024 class.
