Cameron Barnes, a 6-foot-10 center out of Dallas (Texas) Duncanville has taken unofficial visits to Kansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, SMU, and TCU. He has not taken any official visits thus far.

Barnes is the No. 53 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is ranked as the No. 7 center and the No. 6 player in Texas.

He also holds offers from Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Memphis, and Wichita State. Barnes also says he has interest from Arkansas, Iowa State, Oregon, Oregon State, UNLV, and Gonzaga.

Barnes discussed with On3 his recent visits, as well as who he’d like to visit in the future.

Kansas is the home state

“I’m originally from Wichita, Kansas so probably like two hours away from KU,” Barnes said. “So Kansas is my home state. The visit was cool. It felt like family. We were clicking hard, clicking fast. The coaches and us, we all sat down and ate. We took a tour, watched practice a little bit, watched weights. They talked to me about me, what I need to work on, and the stuff they like, and what they’re impressed with.”

The culture at Baylor

“I like their culture,” Barnes said. “They have kind of the same mindset as we have at Duncanville. They all care about winning. Baylor has a good weight room program…one of the best weight-room directors in the country. Baylor has really good coaches and they invest in all their players. The culture is really good.”

Oklahoma visit went well

“It was good,” Barnes said. “We went to the football game, saw the practice facility, took a tour around the campus, academic campus. It was really cool. All the coaches were there, the head coach (Porter Moser)…we talked for a little bit. I got to talk to another coach, named K.T. (Turner). They are all really cool, laid-back type of dudes. It was fun.”

SMU is home

“It’s close to home,” Barnes said. “I have a good relationship with Coach Yaphett (King). He’s really cool and the main person I talk to. They also have a good weight room as well. They have a nice campus as well.”

TCU assistant coach is like ‘family’ to Barnes

“It was good,” Barnes said. “We watched the football game (against California), it was really hot, like 90 degrees. We watched practice. They had the alumni day so I got to see them. I got to see Micah (Peavy), one of my old teammates from Duncanville. It was really cool. I know Coach (Tony) Benford. We are really close. He’s my guy and he’s like family.”

Who does Barnes hear from the most?

“I’d say SMU, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma.”

What’s Barnes looking for in a college?

“I’d definitely say a relationship with all the coaches, development in my body and game, winning, competitiveness…just a college and organization that’s really invested in me and my development and my well-being, on and off the floor.”

Who else does Barnes want to visit?

“I definitely want to go to Texas Tech, Wichita State, Tennessee. Oklahoma State as well.”

Cameron’s father attended the University of Tennessee. He wore a Tennessee shirt in the state playoffs last year in remembrance of his dad, who has passed. Barnes said he and Tennesse’s staff talk “every now and then, but not on a consistent basis. I’d definitely take a visit up there if they want me to come.”
