The Carolina Panthers released Thursday’s injury report ahead of a Sunday matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. Carolina was notably without Shaq Thompson and Christian McCaffrey on Thursday. McCaffrey’s path to returning from a hamstring injury suffered against Houston was stalled as he missed Thursday’s practice.

The Vikings top two wide receivers Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson missed practice for the second day in a row, as a precaution. Defensive tackle Michael Pierce remains out with an elbow injury.

Panthers and Vikings injury list

Did Not Practice – Panthers: LB Shaq Thompson (Foot), Christian McCaffrey (Hamstring), LB Kamal Martin (Concussion)

The Panthers had been easing Christian McCaffrey back into practice after the star running back suffered a hamstring injury against Houston on Sep. 23. His progress stalled Thursday, as the Stanford product did not participate in practice.

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Wednesday that McCaffrey was “50-50” to play against the Vikings on Sunday, but it would depend on how he responded each day.

Linebacker Shaq Thompson did not practice and is unlikely to play for the second consecutive week due to a foot injury. Linebacker Kamal Martin was a new addition to the injury report with a concussion

Did Not Practice – Vikings: TE Ben Ellefson (Knee), WR Adam Thielen (Foot), WR Justin Jefferson (Ankle), DT Michael Pierce (Elbow)

The Vikings are dealing with injuries to their top two wide receivers in Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson. Both missed their second consecutive practice, but their absences seem precautionary. Defensive tackle Michael Pierce remains out with an elbow injury that he aggravated against Cleveland. Ben Ellefson did not participate for the second time in a row due to a knee injury.

Limited Participation – Panthers: CB CJ Henderson (Shoulder)

Cornerback CJ Henderson was limited once again with a shoulder injury.

Limited Participation – Vikings: RB Alexander Mattison (Shoulder), LB Anthony Barr (Knee), CB Cameron Dantzler (Illness)

After missing Wednesday’s practice with a shoulder injury, running back Alexander Mattison returned to practice on Thursday. Linebacker Anthony Barr was limited on Thursday after missing Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury. Cornerback Cameron Dantzler was limited Thursday after being removed from the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Dantzler was placed on the list last week, tweeting he was fully vaccinated and hoped to be back soon.

Full Participation – Panthers: T Cameron Erving (Neck)

Cameron Erving was a full participant for the second practice in a row, coming back from a neck injury that held him out in week 5.

Full Participation – Vikings: WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette (Toe), RB Dalvin Cook (Ankle), LB Nick Vigil (Ankle)

After opening the practice week limited, running back Dalvin Cook returned as a full participant on Thursday. Wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette was a full participant Thursday after being limited to open the week. Linebacker Nick Vigil has been a full participant all week.
