The Dallas Cowboys are once again dealing with the prospect of losing their coordinators this offseason. After the Broncos requested to interview DC Dan Quinn earlier this week, the Carolina Panthers have now requested permission to interview offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported on Wednesday.

After coordinating the Cowboys offense to a fourth-place finish in points per game (27.5) this season, it’s no surprise Moore is once again on the candidates list.

After the 2021 season, Moore took interviews with the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars. However, he was not reported to have received offers for those jobs.

The Panthers parted ways with head coach Matt Rhule after starting the season 1-4 this year.

Moore addresses head coaching interest

Moore addressed his interest in taking a head coaching job last week.

“Not too worried about it right now,” Moore told reporters on Monday, via Jon Machota. “We’ll go through that process if we have to… I love it here.”

The third-year Cowboys coordinator didn’t explicitly say he would throw his hat into the ring again this offseason, but he made his high aspirations clear last year. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before the 33-year-old takes command of his own team.

For now, Moore is focused on helping the Cowboys get past the first round of the playoffs versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dallas hasn’t made it to the second round since 2018. The last time the Cowboys won a playoff game on the road was 30 years ago. They beat the San Francisco 49ers in January 1993 to win the NFC Championship.

Another demon the Cowboys must overcome on Monday night is their 0-7 record versus Bucs quarterback Tom Brady. Dallas is one of the four teams that has never notched a win against the seven-time Super Bowl champion. However, if they win on Monday, they could have the honor of being the last team the 45-year-old ever plays. Brady told reporters that next time he retires, it will be the last time.
