Carolina Panthers select Jammie Robinson in 5th round of 2023 NFL Draft
Former Florida State star safety Jammie Robinson has been selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. Robinson officially heard his name called in the fifth round when he was selected with the No. 145 overall pick by the Carolina Panthers.
Robinson began his collegiate career at South Carolina in 2019. He was a top-40 safety in the 2019 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He spent two years with the Gamecocks, totaling 135 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, eight passes defended and one forced fumble.
After the 2020 season, Robinson transferred to Florida State where he grew into one of the top safeties in college football. In two years with the Seminoles, he had 183 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions, eight passes defended, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Overall, Robinson finished his college football career with 318 tackles (180 solo), 15.5 tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions, 16 passes defended, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Ahead of the NFL Draft, experts broke down the draft stock of Robinson and broke down how his game will translate to the professional ranks. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein praised Robinson’s versatility, while bringing up concerns about how he tested at the 2023 NFL Combine.
“Short-armed defensive back with good toughness, a compact frame and the versatility for consideration at nickel back or safety,” Zierlein said. “He thrives when playing downhill, where anticipation and burst provide quick closure to make plays on the throw. He has twitchy feet to match up from the slot but tends to stay behind if he falls behind in the route.
“He’s a run supporter with a nose for the ball but average stopping power. Robinson lacks ideal measurables and was unimpressive in NFL Scouting Combine athletic testing, but he’s a feisty defender whose success could be determined by how a team decides to deploy him.”
Zierlein provided an NFL comparison for Robinson as he enters the league, mentioning Damarious Randall. Randall, a former first-round pick in 2015, has been a solid contributor across his first six NFL seasons, where he has played for three different teams at safety and corner.
Now Robinson knows where he will be beginning his NFL career. He will now look to prove his worth as a professional, hoping that his collegiate success can translate to the NFL field.
