Alabama is the odds-on favorite to win the college football national championship once again, via the Caesar Sportsbook by William Hill. The defending champions are looking to become the first repeat champions since Nick Saban’s 2011 and 2012 squads brought consecutive titles to Tuscaloosa.

Here are the odds to win the national championship for 2021, according to William Hill

CFB National Championship Odds: The Favorites

Alabama (+260): Making it to the promise-land is tough, but to get back to work and do it again next season is near impossible. Good thing Nick Saban has done the impossible before. Rightfully so, Alabama is the popular pick to win the national championship.

Clemson (+400): Dabo Swinney lost his generational quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, but DJ Uiagalelei is more than capable of leading the Tigers. He got some in-game experience last season, and he can carry the team on his back if he need be.

Ohio State (+600): Last year’s national championship runner-up got boat raced when the lights were brightest in last season’s finale. The team’s offense should still be dangerous with CJ Stroud replacing Justin Fields at quarterback. As long as they win the Big Ten, they’ll have a shot at the title.

Oklahoma (+750): The popular pick for the Heisman, Maxwell and Davey O’Brien is Spencer Rattler. It’s a trendy choice, as Rattler excelled in Lincoln Riley’s offense last season. There’s no ceiling on this Oklahoma team with Rattler as their signal-caller.

Georgia (+800): Is it possible Georgia is actually undervalued? The offense should be better than ever with quarterback JT Daniels getting a full off-season to work with offensive coordinator, Todd Monken. Georgia has been close to a national championship in the Kirby Smart-era, but 2021 could be their breakthrough.

CFB National Championship Odds: The Sneaky Picks

Iowa State (+3,000): Matt Campbell spurned the NFL once again this off-season. One of the most sought-after coaches in the nation will be in Armes until 2028. The Iowa State head coach believes they’re building something ‘special’. With quarterback Brock Purdy returning for another season, Iowa State has sleeper potential this season.

Texas A&M (+3,000): The Aggies missed out on the college football playoff last season, but many believed they should’ve made it over Notre Dame. Luckily, Jimbo Fisher has one national championship as a head coach already. He’s going to have to figure out who’s replacing Kellen Mond at quarterback if he wants to win another.

LSU (+3,000): If you needed a reminder on how tough it is to repeat, look at last year’s LSU team. A dream 2019 turned into a nightmarish 2020. Ed Orgeron will try to steady the ship in 2021. Joe Burrow isn’t walking through the door again. This season, figuring out the quarterback position will be vital to the success of the Tigers.

Florida (+4,000): Florida’s offense had unlimited firepower last season. Unfortunately, losses to Texas A&M and Alabama were too much to overcome. Oh, and that shoe throw vs. LSU. In 2021, quarterback Emory Jones will get to showcase his full abilities. If he lives up to his potential, the Gators could be the latest SEC offensive powerhouse to win a national championship.

Notre Dame (+4,000): The Fighting Irish have mountains to climb to get another national championship opportunity. After another embarrassing loss in the college football playoff, the program may be stained in the eyes of the committee. Wisconsin transfer Jack Coan will shoulder the load on offense, replacing Ian Book at quarterback. He’ll have to be tremendous if a national championship is in Notre Dame’s future.

CFB National Championship Odds: The Longshots

USC (+5,000): Trojans quarterback Kedon Slovis is in for a fantastic season. The potential first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft is looking to lead the Trojans to a Pac-12 championship, at the least. USC hasn’t won a national championship since 2004, but they may have the best chance of any Pac-12 team in 2021.

Wisconsin (+5,000): Wisconsin’s hopes hinge on whether or not they can defeat Ohio State. Quarterback Graham Mertz has enough talent to carry the Badgers offense. In addition, Jalen Berger can be the next in the long line of electrifying Wisconsin running-backs. They just have to beat the Buckeyes to reach their potential.

North Carolina (+5,000): A sneaky value pick. The North Carolina Tar Heels have tremendous leadership in the right places with coach Mack Brown and quarterback Sam Howell. However, having to replace players like wide receivers Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome could be their downfall.

Texas (+5,000): Is Texas back? Steve Sarkisian is coming to Austin, but their heart and soul left with Sam Ehlinger. Casey Thompson showed real promise replacing Ehlinger at quarterback in last year’s Alamo Bowl, but there are big shoes to fill for the presumed Longhorn’s starter.

Oregon (+5,000): The Oregon Ducks have come close to a national championship before, but could this be their year? Boston College transfer quarterback Anthony Brown is talented, and projected to start. He’ll have to rely on the bevy of talent on the Ducks’ offense, like wide receiver Devon Williams and running backs Travis Dye and CJ Verdell.

Penn State (+7,500): After a more than disappointing start to the 2020 season, Penn State finished with hope. Sean Clifford and Jahan Dotson may not lead the Nittany Lions to a national championship, but expect Penn State to bounce back in 2021.

Miami (FL) (+7,500): The Miami Hurricanes will go as far as D’Eriq King can take them. Miami’s quarterback was the flashiest thing on the field – even with the gigantic gold, orange and green turnover chain. Manny Diaz’s team is one of the most fun in college football, but that doesn’t always translate to national championships.
