On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power and On3 National Analyst Gerry Hamilton hosted an Instagram Live Wednesday afternoon where they spent time breaking down the 2022 and 2023 football recruiting rankings. Watch the complete chat below.

The On300 for the Class of 2022 is headlined by EDGE defender Marvin Jones Jr. of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage. Power and Hamilton discussed why they are higher on Jones compared to other analysts in the country.

“Jones shows first-step quickness and bend coming off the edge,” Powers explained during the chat. “He’s advanced technically with cat-quick hands. There are some instances where he’s literally untouched by opposing offensive tackles. We also love Jones’ closing speed in pursuit. He finds multiple ways to create havoc, as a pass rusher, backside run defender or affecting passing lanes.”

Power and Hamilton said in the chat there does seem to be more consensus in the 2023 rankings. The On3 Top 100 list is topped by New Orleans Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. He is regarded by other services as either the No. 1 or No. 2 player in the country.

“Manning leads a strong group of young quarterbacks with two California products, Oklahoma commit Malachi Nelson (No. 2) of Los Alamitos and Nicholaus Iamaleava (No. 9) of Downey Warren, also ranking as five-stars for On3,” Hamilton said.

Manning is the son of Cooper Manning, grandson of Archie and nephew of Peyton and Eli. The scion of one of America’s top sporting families has already become one of the more well-known football recruits in the nation despite just entering the 11th grade.

“Despite the amount of external attention, Arch Manning has continued to show he’s deserving of the lofty status,” Power said in the chat.

Sooners, Aggies, Noles, more also discussed during chat

Hamilton and Power talked in the chat about the fast start for the 2023 class by the Oklahoma Sooners and how Texas A&M could finish strong in 2022. They also answered questions from college football fans during the chat.
