Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. missed practice for the second straight day on Saturday. Afterward, Matt Eberflus provided an update on the former Tennessee star’s status going forward.

Jones is day-to-day with an unspecified injury, Eberflus told reporters. The news came as part of a rough news day for the Bears receiver corps as Eberflus confirmed Byron Pringle would miss time with a quad injury and N’Keal Harry went down with an injury.

The Bears drafted Jones No. 71 overall in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft as they try to add weapons for second-year quarterback Justin Fields. He had a big year for Tennessee in 2021, totaling 807 receiving yards and seven touchdowns for the Volunteers with Hendon Hooker under center.

The Bears went 6-11 overall in 2021 and fired both general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy after the season. Now, Ryan Poles is in at general manager and he hired Eberflus is the head coach.

Since Eberflus has a defensive background, Chicago hired former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy to try and help Fields after a rough rookie season under Nagy’s watch. But his weapons appear to be dwindling as the injuries pile up.

Former Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves tries out for Chicago Bears

Vernon Hargreaves is still looking for his next landing spot in the NFL. The former Florida star tried out for the Chicago Bears on Friday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Hargreaves played for the Cincinnati Bengals last season after previous stops with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans. He starred at Florida from 2013-15 before the Buccaneers drafted him No. 11 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Hargreaves began the 2021 season with the Texans and started five out of eight games before his release. The Bengals picked him up off the waiver wire and he was with the team when they made it to the Super Bowl. However, he cost Cincinnati a 15-yard penalty and was fined for running out onto the field during that game at SoFi Stadium even though he was inactive for the game.
