As the Carolina Panthers get ready to start their season on Sunday, a new name appeared on the injury report Thursday. Christian McCaffrey’s name came up — but he didn’t miss practice.

McCaffrey is dealing with a shin injury, according to the Panthers’ updated injury report, which they released Thursday. He didn’t have an injury designation on Wednesday.

Kicker Eddy Pineiro and tight end Giovanni Ricci both remained on the report and their statuses didn’t change after Wednesday’s practice.

The Panthers are getting ready to lift the curtain on the 2022 season against the Browns at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be filled with storylines, especially since Baker Mayfield will start at quarterback following his trade from Cleveland to Carolina over the offseason.

Limited participant — TE Giovanni Ricci (hip)

Ricci was also a limited participant in practice on Wednesday as he works his way back from a hip injury. He played a big role on special teams last season, totaling seven tackles in 16 games, including one start, in 2021.

Full participants — K Eddy Pineiro (left hip), RB Christian McCaffrey (shin)

McCaffrey’s addition is interesting, especially considering he was a full participant. He dealt with multiple injuries last season, only appearing in seven games, and is looking for a potential bounce-back season in 2022. He rushed for 442 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in 37 receptions for 343 yards and a touchdown in the passing game in his limited action a year ago.

Pineiro was a full participant for the second straight day as he gets ready for his first season as the kicker with Carolina. He played for the New York Jets last season and went a perfect 8-for-8 on field goal attempts while also going 9-for-10 on extra points. It was his first NFL action since 2019 when he played for the Chicago Bears, making 23 of 28 field goals and 27 of 29 extra point attempts.
