Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow started off his collegiate career at Ohio State underneath coach Urban Meyer before transferring to LSU with Ed Orgeron. Burrow often talks glowingly about his relationship with Orgeron, but how is his relationship with his first college coach? During the recent interview, he talked about his relationship with Meyer and memories with him at Ohio State.

“No, no,” said Burrow when asked did he and Meyer have a bad relationship. “I mean, it got intense at times. ‘Cause, you know, I wasn’t playing, and we were competing, and I was a backup quarterback. But I love coach Meyer. There’s nothing but love there.”

Despite not seeing the field much in his three years at Ohio State, Burrow developed a bond with Meyer. But the interview hosts were not satisfied with just that simple answer. They followed up that question by asking whether Meyer was hard on Burrow and what was the worst thing he said to his former quarterback.

“Very hard, yeah. He’s the kind of guy that when a new guy gets there he’s gonna put him in the fire and see how he responds. …He stands right behind the quarterback and if you make a bad throw he’s gonna let you know it. So some guys can handle it, some guys can’t. And once you get through that and he realizes you’re a tough guy, good player, works hard, then the relationship kind of switches to more of a friend than hard coach… He told me I throw like a girl one time.”

Burrow on his decision to leave Ohio State: ‘Writing was on the wall’

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow took the long road to win a national championship and become a number one overall pick. The pivotal point in the young quarterback’s life was when he decided to transfer from Ohio State to LSU in the summer of 2018. And during a recent sitdown interview, Burrow explained when everything changed for him and when he could see the writing on the wall with the Buckeyes.

“So I graduated in three years, and the transfer portal wasn’t a thing when I was transferring,” said Burrow. “You (had to sit out) unless you graduated. So, I graduated. But you couldn’t just hop in the portal like you can these days. I decided to transfer, and the writing was on the wall. Dwayne (Haskins). “

Burrow joined Ohio State in 2015 after the Buckeyes won the national championship the year before. He already had a tough hill to climb with quarterbacks Braxton MillerJ.T Barrett, and Cardale Jones ahead of him. However, the following offseason, Burrow got knocked further down the depth chart after Dwayne Haskins joined the team. Shortly after that is when Burrow knew his time at Ohio State was done.
