Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett was involved in a single-car crash on Monday afternoon, sustaining minor injuries. Garrett was reportedly driving home with a female passenger after attending practice on Monday morning when he crashed his vehicle.

Garrett’s vehicle went off the road and reportedly flipped several times before coming to a rest, according to News 5 Cleveland.

Garrett and his passenger were both taken to a nearby hospital and have non-life-threatening injuries according to officials. Both of the vehicles occupants were wearing seatbelts according to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, and neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash — as per the report — although the cause was unknown at the time.

Although Garrett did not suffer any major injuries, the Browns later released a statement regarding the accident and detailed what injuries he did suffer.

“First — and most importantly — we are thankful that Myles, his passenger and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday,” the Browns said in a statement on Tuesday night. “After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts.

“Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week.”

According to the official report, the accident occurred when Garrett swerved in the road to avoid hitting an animal and “overcorrected” his steering. The road was wet due to rain in the area prior, and the resulting loss of control caused his vehicle to roll over.
