The Winter Olympics are still going on in Beijing, China and they’ll continue until Feb. 20. Former LSU star running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a huge fan of the Winter Olympics. He was recently interviewed about his favorite Winter Olympics sport and his favorite Olympian in the games.

Below is the brief clip of the interview if you want to watch.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire talks about the Olympics

Here is the transcribed version of the interview clip above. “I love the Winter Olympics. I would probably say the half pipe is…snowboarding is probably my thing. Man, Shaun White, been a fan since the first Shaun White snowboarding game that he was a part of. I was one of those guys trying to do snowboarding, but there’s not too much snow in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. So, that was kind of my time to watch the Winter Olympics and see those things because snow is not a big thing in the South. So I feel like that’s why I gravitated towards it,” Edwards-Helaire said.

It’s interesting to hear Edwards-Helaire mention that snowboarding is his favorite sport to watch. If he’s a huge fan of snowboarding, then it’s not surprising to hear him gush about Shaun White, the man that was once known as the “Flying Tomato” for his epic tricks in the air and his long, orange hair. White just wrapped up his 16-year journey to his fifth and final Winter Olympics. The 35-year old finished fourth in the Olympic men’s halfpipe after falling on the final run of his career. His high score of 85.00 on his second run was not enough for him to earn a medal.

To say that White has shredded his way into snowboarding history is an understatement. He’s the best known snowboarder in the world. White has won multiple titles, including halfpipe Olympic gold medals at Torino in 2006, Vancouver in 2010, and PyeongChang 2018.

The former LSU running back is an incredible athlete himself

While Clyde Edwards-Helaire is no Olympian, his former LSU teammate, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, said that Edwards-Helaire was the best athlete on the 2020 LSU National Championship team. Keep in mind, that was a team that included the likes of Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, two of the best receivers in college football history and two of the very best at their position in the National Football League.

In 2020 with the Kansas City Chiefs, the former LSU tailback had his best season yet, racking up 1,100 all-purpose yards and five total touchdowns. In 2021, He played in 10 games, racking up 646 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns. He’s battled a variety of injuries for the past two seasons. During the regular season, he missed three games in 2020 and missed seven games in 2021. That’s not even counting the postseason. That’s a total of 10 games missed during his first two years in the NFL. Staying healthy will be a major focus moving forward for the dynamic all-purpose tailback.
