Wide receiver Cole Adams is one of just 14 football prospects in the state of Oklahoma with a Power Five offer in the 2023 class, and he’s ready for a breakout year on the recruiting scene.

As D-I coaches hit the road this fall to check out prospects, Adams will be right up there on the list with the likes of his teammate 4-star defensive lineman Chris McClellan at Owasso High School.

“I’m open to anything right now,” Adams said. “I’m still learning a lot about recruiting. I went to Oklahoma State for camp, that was an awesome time. I may go to Texas Tech at the end of July. I’m just kind of learning and seeing who’s interested in me. Next year, I’ll do more visiting to see the cultures, strength staff, that stuff.”

Kansas State was the first to offer Adams in January of this year, just a couple weeks after the 5-foot-10 wideout released his highlight tape. Tulsa, Iowa State, New Mexico and Texas Tech have all followed suit, impressed by Adams’ 10.65-second 100-meter dash and his unfailing ability to get the ball in his hands.

“A lot of coaches I’m on the phone with, they talk about my size and they say that it helps a lot that I’m faster than most people,” Adams said. “My speed and explosiveness are strengths.

“Kansas State, Iowa State and Texas Tech have all mentioned how they’ve used receivers that are my size in the past. Even (Drake) Stoops at OU, that could be me one day.”

Though they haven’t extended offers, Baylor and Texas A&M have also shown interest in the three-sport athlete (football, basketball, track and field).

Cole Adams has coach’s endorsement

At Owasso, Adams is coached by former University of Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship. Only a few football prospects in the nation can claim that on their resume, and he feels it’s had a major impact on his future.

“He’s taught me unbelievable amounts, on the field and off the field,” Adams said about Blanekship. “He’s made me, and everyone on the team, a better person.”

Blankenship is undoubtedly a big Cole Adams fan and he’s his No. 1 endorser when college coaches come calling.

“Cole is just an incredible athlete,” Blankenship said. “He became our leading receiver as a freshman, which just doesn’t happen around here. Even better than his talent is his competitiveness. He could play just about any position. He’s a converted QB from junior high, so he can throw the ball.

“His per-catch average was 24 yards. We have a great group of receivers, but he’s our go-to guy. If recruiting had been open in the spring, no question he’d have more Power Five offers.”

As a football lover and a coach’s kid, Adams will watch any team play on Saturdays or Sundays. However, he did note if the University of Oklahoma is playing, he’s going to tune in.

Before the 2021 season begins, Adams is hoping to add to his 175-pound frame, especially in his base where he generates the power for his explosive runs.
