ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit is back, as he released his list of week 5’s top college football performers. This weekend was filled with big-time players making big-time plays for their teams, but none more than in the Big Ten conference this week according to Herbstreit, who had three players represented on the list for week 5.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is making his second appearance in a row this week following strong performances in weeks 4 and 5, and is joined by TCU quarterback Max Duggan and East Carolina quarterback Holton Ahlers, who was accompanied side by side on the list with his wide reciever C.J. Johnson.

Rounding out this week’s list was Nebraska wide receiver Trey Palmer, Ohio State running back Miyan Williams, Michigan edge Mike Morris, UTEP edge Jadrian Taylor, and Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs

Nix followed his strong performance against Washington State with another one in week 5 versus Stanford, as he led the Ducks to another 40-plus point scoring outing with 161 yards and two touchdowns in the air and 141 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Dugan has a similar dual threat outing in the Horned Frogs dominant upset victory over Oklahoma, ending the game with 302 passing yards and three touchdowns along with two more touchdowns on the ground and 116 rushing yards.

Ahlers and Johnson are the first duo to appear on the list this season, and rightfully so, as they both had game-breaking performances this weekend thanks to each other. Ahlers threw for 465 yards and six touchdown passes this weekend, and Johnson caught four of those touchdown passes, ending the game with 197 receiving yards.

A duo of edge rushers made Herbstreit’s list this week in Mike Morris and Jadrian Taylor. Morris lived in Maryland‘s backfield this weekend, finishing the day with two sacks, two quarterback hurries, and two tackles for loss. Morris had a great day, but Taylor had a defensive lineman’s paradise in week 5 as he had three sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery that was scooped in the Miner’s end zone and returned 100 yards for a touchdown.

Three skill players rounded out Herbstreit’s week 5 list, as Palmer had an eight-catch, 157-yard receiving day for the Cornhuskers capped off with an 87-yard touchdown. Running backs Miyan Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs also had strong showings out the backfield, as Williams ended the game with a whopping five touchdown runs and Gibbs had 226 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, including a 76-yard touchdown run that put the nail in the coffin in the Crimson Tide’s win over Arkansas.
