ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his weekly list of the nation’s top performers after an electric week 4 of action. Herbstreit’s list this week is unique for two reasons, first, it is typically ranked and this week is not, which could be a tribute to how close the performances were out of each player. Additionally, it is also the longest list of the season, featuring nine players compared to six or seven in weeks prior.

Herbstreit’s list is headlined by various quarterbacks who came up big for their teams this weekend which included Kansas State‘s Adrian Martinez, Tennessee‘s Hendon Hooker, Middle Tennessee State‘s Chase Cunningham, and Oregon‘s Bo Nix.

The non-quarterbacks that rounded out the list were Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, Michigan running back Blake Corum, Iowa safety Cooper DeJean, Texas A&M linebacker Chris Russell, and Cal running back Jaydn Ott.

Two quarterbacks that led their teams to upset victories made Herbstreit’s list this week, as Martinez and Cunningham led their teams respectively in two of the biggest surprise victories of the weekend.

Martinez led Kansas State to a 41-34 win over No. 6 ranked Oklahoma, throwing for 234 yards and a touchdown, but his biggest impact was made with his legs, as he rushed for 148 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Cunningham threw for 408 yards and three touchdowns, and also did some work with his legs adding a rushing touchdown to his stat line in a 45-31 MTSU upset over No. 25 Miami.

The lone receiver on this week’s list was Emeka Egbuka, who led the Buckeyes in receiving in their dominant 52-point outing against Wisconsin, where he had 118 yards on six catches and two touchdowns, his third straight 100-yard receiving performance of the season.

A duo of running backs also made an appearance in Blake Corum and Jaydn Ott. Corum was a workhouse for Michigan in week 4, as he had 30 carries for 243 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for the Wolverines. Ott, a freshman, had a breakout game for Cal, and had even more yards and touchdowns than Corum on fewer carries, finishing their game against Arizona with 274 yards and three touchdowns on just 19 carries.
