On3’s coordinators of the week for each Power 5 conference for Week 8

Each week, On3’s Matt Zenitz selects coordinators of the week from each Power 5 conference as well as two from the Group of 5 ranks.

Here are the On3 coordinators of the week from Week Eight.

ACC

Duke DC Robb Smith
Duke had eight takeaways, including a pick-six, along with six sacks during a 45-21 win over Miami. The eight takeaways are tied for the most in an FBS game since 2012.

Louisville DC Bryan Brown
Louisville held Pitt to three points during the final three quarters of a 24-10 win over the Panthers. Pitt came in averaging 35.0 points per game. The Cardinals had four takeaways.

Big Ten

Penn State OC Mike Yurcich
After posting just three combined offensive touchdowns in a win over Northwestern and a loss to Michigan, Penn State doubled that with six in a 45-17 win over Minnesota, which had limited its first four Power 5 opponents to 15 points per game.

Big 12

Oklahoma State OC Kasey Dunn
Oklahoma State rolled up 534 yards, 32 first downs and five touchdowns during a 41-34 win over then-No. 20 Texas.

Texas Tech outgained West Virginia 594-282 during a 48-10 win over West Virginia. It was the fewest points this season for the Mountaineers, who averaged 33.8 points in their first five games against Power 5 opponents. In addition, the Red Raiders’ offensive output was 220 yards above what WVU had been allowing.

Pac-12

Oregon OC Kenny Dillingham
Oregon racked up 545 yards, 31 first downs and six touchdowns during a 45-30 win over then-No. 9 UCLA.

SEC

Alabama DC Pete Golding
Alabama held Mississippi State scoreless until the final play of a 30-6 win over the then-No. 24 Bulldogs. Mississippi State, which finished with 293 yards, had been averaging 35.4 points and 427.6 yards per game.

LSU OC Mike Denbrock/DC Matt House
LSU outscored Ole Miss 42-3 during the final 44:57 of its 45-20 win over the then-No. 7 Rebels, including 28-0 in the second half. LSU had 500 yards of offense; Ole Miss had been allowing 346.0 per game. In addition, the Rebels managed just 116 rushing yards; they came in averaging an SEC-leading 271.4.

Group of 5

East Carolina OC Donnie Kirkpatrick/DC Blake Harrell
ECU’s defense held UCF, which had scored 111 points in its previous two games, to one touchdown and had four takeaways during a 34-13 win over the Knights. The Pirates’ offense, meanwhile, finished with points on six of its first eight possessions against a defense that previously hadn’t allowed more than 20 points in a game. One of the drives that finished without points ended with a 25-yard missed field goal.

Troy DC Shiel Wood
Troy limited South Alabama to 255 yards during a 10-6 win over the Jaguars, who had been 5-0 against non-Power 5 opponents.
